REVIEW: GARFIELD GETS REAL
11/18/07
Garfield Gets Real is an
animated movie based on the most popular comic strip by Jim
Davis and Written by him as well. The most famous feline and
his friends are back and this time they are fully animated,
the new CGI movie will be in stores November 20 2007. The
movie is entertaining and funny, and with the new technology
Garfield and his friends have never looked better.
Unfortunately, the movie falls short to its essence. It is
more oriented to get new fans who don’t know who Garfield is
(younger fans) than to its long term followers. Garfield
Gets Real lacks the kind of humor that characterize the
strip for almost 30 years.
In this movie, Garfield is the same selfish, lazy, hungry,
overweight cat. He lives in the cartoon world and he has to
go to work to the cartoon studios to pose for his daily
strip that come out in the real world’s newspapers. On a
Monday, Garfield feels that he needs a break of his daily
routine, and decides to leave everything he has to move to
the real world with Odie (not by choice). But soon he
realize that he does not belong there and wishes to get back
to his family and friends, which turns out to be more
difficult than he thought.
The movie is funny but not Garfield funny. It doesn’t have
any come back lines, not a single smart remarks, and he does
not even eat a piece of lasagna; he is actually too cat to
be Garfield. In this adventure he is more like a scared
kitty from another kind of movie. The computer animated is
excellent in this movie the only problem I saw is that it is
difficult to differentiate which world is which. The only
difference that I notice is that in the cartoon world
everything is well outlined like in a comic strip and
everything is brighter than in the real world. Actually, I
think this movie would have been better if it was done as
the previous ones; in the real world. The voices of the
character are terrific each voice is well picked for its
character, and the story is not the best but it will keep
your mind entertain. Another high point is the appearance of
all the characters of the strip, and how the friendship
between Garfield and Odie is shown in the movie. Other
comics strips character come out in this movie such as
Dagwood but they do not have an important role.
The DVD comes well presented in its case and fully packed
with special features that many fans would like. For example
it has the process of how the strip is made in real life
told by Jim Davis itself, it also has two Games one to be
played in the DVD and the other for the DVD ROM in your
computer. Also it has how the cast of each character were
picked and how they came with each voice, and some bloopers.
Garfield Gets Real is a good movie if you like to see
Garfield as never before, both visually and character wise.
New characters are also introduced in this film but I doubt
they will have continuity in the strip. The movie is short
in length and anyone can enjoy it, but if you are a fan of
the strip do not make high expectations for it.

I think the movie could
have been a little bit more better than
it was. Your right the movie is not
funny at all. My expectations of this
movie wasn't high but more of a let
down. |
