REVIEW: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
DELUXE EDITION
08/16/09

OVERVIEW: The irresistibly funny romantic comedy HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS makes its move onto DVD and Blu-ray in an all-new Deluxe Edition arriving August 18, 2009 from Paramount Home Entertainment. Pairing Matthew McConaughey (Tropic Thunder) and Kate Hudson (You, Me and Dupree) with delightful results, HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS is an uproarious battle of the sexes that appeals to both men and women.
The HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS Deluxe Edition DVD and Blu-ray feature new bonus material including “How to Make a Movie in 2 Years”, “Why the Sexes Battle” and “Girls Night Out”, as well as previously released features including commentary by director Donald Petrie, deleted scenes with optional commentary by Petrie and a music video of Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You”.
SYNOPSIS: Pete’s Dragon
is an uplifting musical adventure about a spunky young
orphan that blends live action and stellar Disney animation.
With his only friend Elliot, a tubby, 12-foot tall dragon
who
can make himself invisible, Pete (Sean Marshall) takes
refuge from his abusive adoptive family in the seaside town
of Passamaquoddy, Maine. After Elliot’s invisible antics
wreak havoc with the residents and Pete gets the blame, Nora
(Helen Reedy) is touched by the youngster’s
plight and takes him to live with her and her tippling
father Lampie (Mickey Rooney) in the Passamaquoddy Point
lighthouse. Lampie’s tipsy tales of the boy and his dragon
amuse the disbelieving townsfolk, until the local quack, Dr.
Terminus, discovers that Elliot is real and hatches a scheme
to capture the dragon. An exciting and inspiring story with
unforgettable music, including the Academy Award nominated
“Candle on the Water,” “There's Room for Everyone” and
“Brazzle Dazzle Day,” Pete’s Dragon High Flying Edition will
be a perennial
DVD: The film is
presented in widescreen with a 1.85:1 aspect ration preserving its theatrical
format. It seems to be the same cut use from the previous DVD
released, clean images without any types of color saturation. Paramount Home
Entertainment has done it again with this transfer. Not only the picture looks
excellent in this release, also the sound it is good. A
Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround, French 5.1 Surround and
Spanish 5.1 Surround providing a nice complement to the
picture it also includes English, French and Spanish
subtitles.
In terms of Special Features,
the Deluxe Edition includes all previously released features
plus three featurettes including “How to Make a Movie
in 2 Years” which gives viewers a little behind the scenes
on how the movie was made. “Why the Sexes Battle” and “Girls
Night Out” can be just be skipped.
Overall How to Lose a Guy in
10 Days can be a classic romantic comedy for many and a
total waist of time for others the truth is that, this is a
DVD for hardcore fans to own. However if I was a fan I would
rather get Blu-ray version of the film. What I can see as a
disappointment in this release id the absents of a digital copy .
