DVD REVIEW:
Impact Point
07/06/08
The most important thing to keep in
mind while watching Impact Point is to keep an open mind
and low expectations, and it will not disappoint. What
seems to be a mediocre and predictable story would
surprise the audience with an elaborated sequence of turns
of events that will managed to keep the audience attention
and interest for the whole movie. The director did a great
job managing to turn an overplayed story into a mildly
entertaining and develop feature. Impact point is rated R
for violence, language, some sexuality and nudity.
The movie centers in the AVP pro Beach Volleyball, which
is definitely a big plus, since the whole movie is
surrounded by the beauty and lifestyle this sport comes
with, like the settings, parties, rivalries and of course
the people. This helps in creating a more comfortable and
easy to follow atmosphere for the audience, although
sometimes it seems for a moment that the audience is not
watching a thriller movie but a TV series like Baywatch or
Miami Vice. The script and characters are also kept simple
which is a good thing in this kind of movies, since it
helps to keep the movie somehow real, the audience will
feel sympathy for the character and could relate to them
in many different ways. Acting wise, although there are
some scenes that were highly forced, most of the cast did
a great job performing their role, specially Brian Austin
Green and Melisa Keller’s performances were the best I
have seen from these actors. They understood and
interpreted their character to their best of their
abilities. Visually like a said before for this type of
movies it delivers; it presents to the audience beautiful
settings, and of course a lot of beautiful people, sound
wise it is not bad, but I think it could be a little
better. In character development the movie disappoints a
little since aside the main characters, many of the
character are awfully predictable, and some interactions
between them seems forced and out of place like the
relationship between Kelly and Jen who become friends all
of the sudden after been everlasting rivals, and most
important of all Green‘s character should have more
complexity and elaboration. The ending scene of the movie
also might be predictable and disappointing for many
viewers, since it does not add anything to the story, I
think that if the writers would have put more thought into
it the movie would have been much better.
Psycho
movies are in my opinion one of the best genre there are,
they are suspenseful and always managed to attract
viewers. It could be the way this character operates,
their motive or even the character’s personality that
attracts the audience, and when well managed it will stay
in the audience mind for a great period of time, who has
not ever hear of Patrick Bateman or Hannibal Lector.
Unfortunately for Impact Point, although entertaining this
character is not well exploited and like an impacting or
shocking news from TV it will manage to catch our
attention, but it will eventually fade within a week. I
recommended this movie for anyone who has an open mind and
time to spare, or to fans of TV Series such as Baywatch
and Fast Lane.
