REVIEW: MIDNIGHT CLEAR
12/08/07
SYNOPSIS:
As midnight approaches in a small Southwestern town,
five lonely strangers randomly cross paths, and in unique
and subtle ways, change each others' lives forever. The
film, based on the short story of the same name by #1 New
York Times best-selling author Jerry B. Jenkins and adapted
by Wes Halula, is directed and produced by Dallas Jenkins.
Featuring incredible performances by such veteran actors as
Stephen Baldwin (The Usual Suspects), K Callan (TV’s "Lois &
Clark"), Victoria Jackson (TV’s “Saturday Night Live"), and
Richard Riehle (Office Space), Midnight Clear is a
modern-day parable about how seemingly insignificant acts of
grace can make a profound difference
REVIEW: The Christmas season is
highly exploited by entertaining movies with the usual
characters of the season (Santa Claus, Rudolph, Snowman) and
other seasonal gadgets (shopping for the most popular item,
and the neighborhood competition of Christmas lights),
"Midnight Clear" is a different type of Christmas season
film focusing on the issues surrounding five different
people and how we are all somehow connected to one another.
Based on the story by Jerry B. Jenkins (Left Behind Series),
director Dallas Jenkins and screenwriter Wes Halula bring
this heart touching story into cinematography.
Eventhough this is a low budget film the backgrounds and
setting are just enough to support the story. However, at
the beginning the film tends to be a bit confusing. In order
to get acquanted with what is going on with Lefty (Stephen
Baldwin), and his mother, (K Callan) along with some other
characters, the scenes jump from one character to the other
and you do not see the connection immediately. But as each
of the stories continue to develop seperately they start to
cleverly intertwine and the story becomes one. While the
ending is expected 3/4ths into the movie, the message is
powerful. The performances by Stephen Baldwin (The Usual
Suspects) is superb and K Callan (Lois & Clark) as
supporting actress is at her best. This might not be the
typical Hollywood film but is the most appropiate film to
watch with family and friends this Christmas season for the
message of redemption and kindness that touches your heart.
