REVIEW:
MULBERRY STREET
(AFTER DARK
HORROR FEST)

03/16/08

“Mulberry Street” is the
third Horrorfest film I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing and
I’m sorry to say that I’m mildly disappointed. These films
are supposed to be the absolute best of the horror genre,
too graphic to show in regular theaters. So far these “8
Films to Die For” haven’t even been enough to cause minor
palpitations. This third film was the biggest disappointment
of all. I mean come on, zombie rat people? Who comes up with
this?
This films starts exactly the same as every zombie movie
you’ve ever seen, you have you're main characters, carrying on
about their lives, totally oblivious to the news reports
that begin indicating that there are rat attacks and that a
virus is running rampant. This one mainly takes place in an
apartment complex, on Mulberry street, hence the name, where
they are trapped while these rat zombies try to get in and
eat them. The other storyline is one of the main characters
daughter is coming home from Iraq and trying to reach him
while he is out trying to save the pretty blond tenant who
works at the local bar. This is the basic dynamic to this
totally overdone storyline.
If you’ve seen any of the classic zombie movies, than seeing
this film is completely unnecessary. The only difference is
in this one they turn into rat people instead of your usual
mindless zombie. The whole movie is a complete insult to
intelligence and the film makers were so lazy they didn’t
even bother to explain why this is happening. They tell you
that the rats began to attack people and that they
transmitted a virus through saliva and blood but they failed
to explain how this virus got into the rats in the first
place and why it causes people to take on the appearance of
rats. I found the whole film trite and a complete waste of
time and brain cells.

Surprisingly as long as you watch this
movie remembering not to ask intelligent
questions regarding Who? What? Where?
and Why? just remember ip "keep it
simple" and just enjoy the movie for
what it is: a Movie that scares me to
death no matter how it is presented. The
topic of: zombies!
So if one evening you have some free
time just turn out all your lights light
a few candles, get the necessities such
as: micrwave popcrn-with extra butter!
And a drink of your choice. Enjoy! :) |
