REVIEW:
OCTOBER ROAD (SEASON
1)

10/28/07

"October Road" debuted on ABC
on March 15, 2007 following a new episode of the popular
show "Grey's Anatomy". The show ratings for the first
episodes where surprising. Since the new drama got mixed
reviews from the critics, "October Road" was able to hook
many of "Grey's Anatomy" viewers. Season one was only six
episodes following "Grey's Anatomy" formula. The show will return for a
second season on Thursday November 22, for one episode only,
after that the show will settle on Mondays at 10pm.
The story begins when young
Nick Garrett (Bryan Greenberg) leaves his hometown of
Knights Ridge, MA. for a summer vacation. Leaving behind his
brother, father, girlfriend and friends. Ten years later and
after writing a best seller book revealing some of the
stories of his hometown friends and in the search for new
creative inspirations Nick returns to his hometown only to
find that he doesn't have too many fans specially his best
friend Eddie Latekka (Geoff Stults) and his ex girlfriend
Hannah Daniels (Laura Prepon). Soon Nick finds out that
Hannah has a 10 year old kid and immediately assumes that
he is the father. Everything will be a challenge for him in
order to gain his family and friends back.
From the first two episodes it
is too premature to judge this show, since the pilot and the
second episodes don’t offer anything special aside from the
cast performance and the music selection used in the show; a
mix of soft rock and soft country. The main characters
selected for the show were a hit by the producers. Bryan
Greenberg (One Tree Hill) and Laura Prepon (That 70’s Show)
display a good chemistry as well as outstanding performance,
especially Laura Prepon who shows that she is capable of
playing drama as well as comedy.
By the third episode the show became more interesting and
audience start to develop feelings for some of the
characters; however, sometimes the story is a little bit
predictable and it falls in to the category of a plain soap
opera. Luckily enough there are not too many of those
moments. Keep the audience interested in the show. It was
disappointing that season one only has six episodes. Just
when the show is peaking up steam season one ends.
The real challenge for
"October Road" will be in season two, when the show leaves
the shadows of "Grey's Anatomy" to settle on Mondays at
10pm. Probably by the third episode ABC will know that his
show is a keeper.
Overall the series is good
drama that after the fourth episode becomes addictive.
