OVERVIEW: Phase 4 Films is pleased to announce the DVD release of PARAISO TRAVEL in the United States and Canada on November 3, 2009. Starring Ana de la Reguera (Nacho Libre and Kevin Smith’s A Couple of Dicks), John Leguizamo (The Happening, Ice Age: Meltdown) and Margarita Rosa de Francisco (Fidel), the film was released theatrically in the U.S. in July 2009. Phase 4 Films is the new theatrical, DVD and television distribution company founded by former Peace Arch Home Entertainment President, Berry Meyerowitz .
PARAISO TRAVEL won multiple audience awards at various international film festivals including: Audience Award Favorite Foreign Feature - Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival, Audience Award - Huelva Latin American Film Festival, Audience Award / Jury Award - Los Angel es Latino International Film Festival, Narrative Feature - San Diego Latino Film Festival, Audience Award - San Francisco Bay Area International Latino Film Festival. Paraíso Travel’s success in connecting with audiences was first seen when the film broke box office records in Colombia when it was released last year. The film held the #1 spot for months, only to be topped by The Dark Knight. The film truly captures the immigrant experience, from angst and constant fear, to adventure, desire and dreams.
SYNOPSIS: Adapted from Jorge Franco's acclaimed novel of the same name, PARAISO TRAVEL is the story of Marlon Cruz, a young Colombian man who, motivated by his beautiful girlfriend Reina, leaves his life in Colombia to illegally cross the border and find fortune in New York. Marlon's journey, which takes him to through seedy strip clubs, dance halls, homeless hostels, and the streets of Jackson Heights, ultimately takes him to a place he could have never predicted.
DVD: Paraiso Travel is
presented in a widescreen format with a 2.40:1 aspect ration,
preserving its original theatrical released format. The picture is complemented with an
English and Spanish5.1 Dolby digital sound, with English subtitles.
In terms of special features
the DVD doesn't include anything to get exited. It
only includes a photo gallery and the theatrical trailer.
Overall with a romantic story as the main
background the filmmakers successfully give us a different view
about Latin America immigration to the US.
