REVIEW: RATATOUILLE

11/02/07

Once again Pixar has done
it and in doing so they just put the king of animation back
to the top. Following the tradition of their new parent
company Disney, Pixar Animation Studios keeps creating
classic after classic. After their success with the "Incredibles"
Brad Bird teams up with Pixar again to create the best
animated film of the year, Ratatouille.
Like in Brad Bird's previous films, the screen play is as
good as it can be making him a master in story telling. Just
like in "The Incredibles" the screenplay flows in a way that
everybody including children are able to understand, making
the film a true family movie.
This time Brad tells the story of Remy a country young rat
that is reluctant to follow his family rat life tradition.
Instead he dreams in becoming a world known chef. Just when
Remy see his dreams slip away, he finds himself alone in the
streets of Paris in front of the restaurant of the famous
Paris chef Gusteau (Brad Garrett). Inside the restaurant he
meets Linguini (Lou Romano) a young man trying to make a
career at the restaurant kitchen, but without any clue on
how to cook. Together the two new pals set in to a mission
of becoming the best chefs in Paris. These two mixed
together are the best recipe since strawberries and cream
crepes.
The narrative created by Brad Bird is simple but powerful,
keeping the little ones and adults totally tune into the
story. In his screenplay Brad created the most unique and
refreshing scenes by combining the key ingredients of a true
Disney classic.
From the beginning of the
film Brad makes sure that everybody understand how Remy
develops his love for cooking, setting up the tone for a fun
ride. Brad is not the only one that takes the whole credit
in this picture, Pixar just elevated their animation status
to a higher level, providing computer animation that many
films will envy including Shrek.
Finally one of the things
that is hard to believe at the end of the film is that the
fun was almost two hours long, which is very atypical for
this genre. When a story is funny, clever and highly
entertaining time is not an issue in the daily rush of life.
