Well, this little piece of scary
movie fluff definitely belongs with your darker variety of
horror B-movies, the foreign feel and location being the
darker elements, but basically been there, done that. If
your any kind of fan of the horror genre, such as I, you’ve
seen this movie already in some shape or form in plenty of
other horror classics. It’s basically the ghost, trapped by
some traumatic death, somehow release by the nice sweet
person and bringing vengeance on all of her mean nasty
bullies, so that when someone dies your horrified by the
method, but secretly pleased that the mean people died, and
of course, our heroine and love interest some how get the
miraculous insight that allows them to rid everyone of said
ghost and save the day. Then of course there’s always the
last boo at the end, but you’ll have to watch it if you want
to know what that is.
The premise of the film is a young
woman, Katrine, who finally lands a place in the dorm of her
chosen university, but quickly realizes that the coveted
space has the opening because of the characters of her
roommates, one in particular being Sanne, a mean spirited
student ,who feels that she can control anything and anyone
in her sector. When a person does not fit in they all work
together to bully the person out, as Rolf, the ex resident
of Katrine’s room found out. When Katrine makes the mistake
of sleeping with one of them, who happens to be Sanne’s
ex-boyfriend, they begin to use a well known myth of the
ghost in room 205, Sanne’s room, to try to scare her out.
Unfortunately, while in Sanne’s bathroom, she inadvertently
releases the ghost, and the vengeful being begins slashing
up her tormenters one by one. After being spurned by Sanne’s
ex after their one night stand, she turns to Rolf, who’s
been victimized by the group before and can relate, and who
has more information about the myth that the begin to use to
figure out what’s going on and devise a plan to stop it
before they are next.
The film is mediocre at best , but
it does have some shock value, with lots of suspense and
some disturbing imagery, but otherwise it lacks the one
thing I’ve really been looking for lately in films because
it‘s so rare, especially in this genre, and that’s
originality. The premise has a very cookie cutter feel,
which happens to be a waste of some very decent acting and a
spectacularly dark and menacing local. The feel of this
place where they filmed would have been put to so much
better use in a film that had a truly original script and
storyline. What a waste of an excellent set, and is truly
the biggest element that raised the standard of the film to
mediocre. As far as a really great scary flick, I guess I’ll
have to keep searching.
