REVIEW: SAW 3
(Director's Cut)

10/21/07

“What is the cure for
Cancer? The same as the cure for death. Immortality, a
legacy.” These are the words from Amanda at the end of Saw
II, and it is just what the series have reached in its
genre. Saw brought horror and suspense movies back to the
game. Now Lion’s Gate is releasing it’s third part for home
entertainment on October 23, 2007, and it looks as good as
ever. Jigsaw is at it again but this time he’s not doing it
alone. He will keep the audience at the edge of their seat.
A perfect timing for Halloween and it’s upcoming successor.
The movie starts where the second one finishes. Jigsaw the
master of gut-twisting riddles some how eludes the police
and his is hiding with his new apprentice. He’s in a bad
condition, his cancer has advanced drastically and he can
barely move. Nonetheless, he still wants to play some games.
With help from his new trainee, they will assemble a new set
of games, and as usual he will pick the right kind of
players.
Director and Co-Writer James Wan tries to put together the
story from the past two movies into this one, and he
succeeds in this process, since it does not only explain a
lot about the characters but it also does not disturb the
flow of the movie: A new person who have not seen the
previous one will understand and enjoy it as much as a
returning fan of the series. Plot wise I can not say it is
original, since all Saw movies have followed the same plot.
It is just a deadly game with a good ending. Nonetheless,
the story is well shown and the scenes are well taken. The
games are also an important high point in the movie. They
are original and unexpected. What were these people thinking
? How did they come up with this idea, it’s what I ask
myself every time I saw them. The settings were well picked,
and the devices were well taught and some how artistic: My
personal favorite is the Angel Trap. The sound effects goes
well with this movie to give the audience that horrifying
feeling.
All the actors did an excellent job, from Tobin Bell
(Jigsaw) to Debra McCabe (Danica, the Frozen Woman). They
clearly match the characters, physically and personality
wise. They display real human emotions along with reactions,
especially the victims which make the audience feel the
exact amount of adrenaline they need, feel their pain, and
be an accomplice in Jigsaw’s atrocious games.
The Director’s Cut disappoints since it doesn’t have extra
footage, or at least any impacting scene that didn’t make it
to the theater. How ever its special features are
entertaining and instructive. You will learn about the
designs and the make-up process used in this movie. It also
have a trivia game for those fans who think they know
everything about Jigsaw. It will also give you a sneak peek
on the next movie. It also includes a music video by
Hydroville-Killer Inside-Messed Up World (Remix).
This movie as the same as its predecessor have a very
important message: It teaches us to value life and
appreciate it for what it is. I recommend this movie to all
people who want to have some fun and want to entertain
themselves, also for a fan of the series is a most have.
This movie will blow your mind and it will surprise you with
its ending. Saw III will let you asking for more and you
know what? Your very lucky since Saw IV is around the
corner. Congratulations Jigsaw you have reach immortality as
the new King of Torture.
