REVIEW: STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS
2 Disc Special Edition
11/09/08
SYNOPSIS:
The Clone Wars takes place
between Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star
Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Jedi Knights Anakin
Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi continue their journey across
the galaxy amongst the Clone Wars, meeting up with familiar
villains, such as Count Dooku, General Grievous and Asajj
Ventress. The Grand Army of the Republic, led by Yoda, Mace
Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and other Jedi Knights, must fight
the New Droid Army of the Separatists.
REVIEW: What?!? Star Wars goes animated? Say it isn’t so. It can’t be.
The shame, the blasphemy, the degradation. After those initial reactions I
calmed down and gave this movie a chance. After all, I am a die hard Star Wars
fan. I grew up on the stuff. The best way to summarize my opinion of this movie
is that if this is the only way to get another Star Wars fix, I’ll take it. It
felt very much the same, but there were some mild differences. For example, the
uber classic theme song in the beginning along with the title screens were
slightly off from the traditional. The voices were very impressive though, as
many of them are not the stars from the Episode II & III films and yet they
sounded just like them. I was fooled. Probably the best and most similar aspect
of this CG version to the real thing is the relentless action and intensity. It
was fun to watch more of the Star Wars saga.
This episode is more kid oriented so the younger crowd might enjoy it a little
more than the live action shows. For this reason, the dialogue seemed a bit
cheesier and a bit less dramatic but it did stay true to the typical Star Wars
dialect, down to the infamous Yoda-talk. Don’t worry adults, you’ll enjoy it
too. Most of the major characters are all there in true form, from R2-D2 to
Palpatine. There are an interesting handful of new characters too that shake up
the story and give the movie a little more flavor. The storyline itself was
really not that great considering the title of the picture. There was no
shortage of action but the major plot theme involving Jabba the Hutt and family
seemed out of place. The involvement of new characters, Ahsoka Tano and Asajj
Ventress, were very much in place and refreshing. Overall, even though this is
not your normal Star Wars flick, Director Dave Filoni has kept the mystique of
Star Wars alive. If you are a fan, go ahead and treat yourself to this one,
especially if you need a fix.
