REVIEW: STIR OF ECHOES 2
(The Homecoming)

11/18/07

If the dead could
communicate with us, what would they say? What would they
want? Stir Of Echoes 2 is a movie that trying to answer such
questions. The dead want to avenge their deaths. The
original Stir Of Echoes 2 had a creepiness factor rarely seen
and even harder to duplicate. While the sequel, Stir of
Echoes: The Homecoming, which isn’t much of a sequel, fails
to live up to it’s predecessor all together it’s fairly
entertaining for a made for TV movie.
Ted Cogan’s (Rob Lowe) life is turned upside down when his
unit is Iraq is caught in a tragic accident. When a van
fails to stop at a checkpoint, Cogan orders his unit to
fire. After the van explodes, Cogan sees the van was
carrying a family. One of the girls gets out alive but is
soon consumed by the fire and later hit by an insurgents’
RPG (rocket propelled grenade). Consumed by guilt, Cogan
returns to his home where he finds that his son has
developed a hatred for middle easterners and has picked up
some other bad habits. For reasons not known Ted Cogan
becomes a receiver and is able to hear and see the dead. He
begins to see burnt bodies popping up everywhere. He thinks
it has something to do with the incident in Iraq, but there
is a bigger secret here and it involves his son. Nobody
believes Ted and they all think his hallucinations are
caused by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. When he finally
meets, Jake Witzky (Zachary Bennett), a seer in the world of
the dead, he learns to listen to what the dead want. However
what the dead want could destroy his entire family, but
failing to so might create worst consequences.
The fright factor in this movie is mostly composed of quick
cuts to burnt bodies popping up on the screen. The
performance by Rob Lowe was authentic and Zachary Bennett
was creepy as the all knowing seer.
Of course, not much is known about Zachary’s character and
he is used here mostly as a gimmick.
There’s nothing really special about this movie as it is
pretty much the run of the mill horror movie, but it is
fairly entertaining and does manage to get and hold ones
attention for the entire run.
