REVIEW: THE UNBORN

07/04/09

OVERVIEW:
From the co-writer of
The Dark Knight and the producers who brought you The Texas
Chainsaw Massacre comes a terrifying glimpse into the life
of the undead in this chilling thriller that will haunt your
soul. Writer and director David Goyer (The Dark Knight,
Blade: Trinity) gives a terrifying glimpse into the life of
the undead in The Unborn, a supernatural thriller that
follows a young woman pulled into a world of nightmares when
a demonic spirit haunts her and threatens everyone she
loves. Own two versions on one disc, including the unrated
cut too terrifying for theaters. Starring Odette Yustman (Cloverfield),
Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight, Harry Potter film series), Cam
Gigandet (Twilight), Meagan Good (Saw V, Stomp the Yard) and
Jane Alexander (Terminator: Salvation, The Ring).
SYNOPSIS: Enter a
world of unrelenting evil as terror finds a new form in The
Unborn. In this shocking supernatural thriller, a young
woman, Casey (Yustman), is plagued by chilling dreams and
tortured by a demonic ghost that haunts her waking hours.
Her only hope to break the debilitating paranormal curse is
in an exorcism with spiritual advisor Sendak (Oldman). See
what lies beyond the doorway of our world in this non-stop
nightmare of the undead….
DVD: The Unborn is presented in
widescreen enhanced for 16:9 TVs with a 2.40:1 aspect ratio
preserving the ration of its theatrical release. The video
is complemented with a Dolby Digital English
5.1 Surround, French 5.1 Surround and Spanish 5.1 Surround
and English, French and Spanish subtitles. The picture looks
very clean as is always the case with every of the Universal
Home Entertainment transfers to DVD. The sound also is
excellent, it was hard for me to find any type of defects in terms of
video and sound.
Like it was expected the
DVD doesn't include any major special feature. It includes
the theatrical and the unrated version of the film. The
unrated version is one minute longer than the theatrical. I
don't see w the point in including the 2 version of the
films. I guess is just marketing! The DVD also includes
close to seven minutes in deleted scenes. If you liked the
movie, you may be want to check these scenes out.
Overall
the films manage to entertain and to
deliver a few quality scares that all. I will suggest to
make it a rental.
