REVIEW: TINKER BELL
10/25/08
At last Disney Studios has
produced "Tinker Bell" the first of an on going series of
films featuring Disney Fairies, a film with lots of
challenges, intrigue, and innovation. The team effort under
the guidance of executive producer John Lasseter has paid
off with this new addition into Disney classics that opens
the doors to an explosion of new characters, a story for all
ages, and a new ground in the influence of technology into
animation. The legacy of this film is the connection that
viewers will make to this icon of Disney magic, "Tinker
Bell".
Up to now we only knew that Tinker
Bell lived in Never Land through the story of "Peter Pan"
and a bit about her personality. However, "Tinker Bell"
brings us the story of this lovely character from her first
giggle in the crib to what we know her to be now. The story
takes us to "Pixie Hollow" a place where fairies are born
with a special talent. Tinker Bell is no exception, she
plays a big role in the magical ways in which fairies bring
the seasons to the human world. However she doesn't feel
that her talent is too important and when she tries to be
someone else disaster strikes. This is a simple story of
self discovery through the help of friends (the fairies) and
the environment (nature), which does not break any standards
set by previous Disney films. Children can very easily
assimilate the message and flow of the story thanks to first
time script writer, Jeffrey M. Howard. Yet some how the
story resembles the story of the "Little Mermaid: Ariel's
Beginning".
The character of Tinker Bell was not
only a big mystery but also a big challenge in many ways. In
the past we were never able to understand Tinker Bell's
language, but as we travel into the world of Pixie Hollow we
can sense Tink's feisty, independent and loyal personality
through the voice of Mae Whitman. This was a perfect match
that only needed a perfect physique. But of course anything
is possible in the wonderful and magical world of Disney.
Therefore, it took Disney converting a 2 D classic character
into a computer animated animation to come up with the
perfect size, eyes, smile and body language. Amazing!
Overall, the team of talented artist
have created a "real effect" with the traditional musical
and animation of all the Disney films that will captivate
many allowing the imagination to roll. As Tinker answers
children's questions on how the seasons change and become
fascinated by each of the fairies, she is also opening the
doors to this new and innovative frontier. This is where the
future of this franchise lies. With the help of super stars
like America Ferrera, Angelica Houston, Kristen Chenoweys,
Lucy Liu, and Raven Symone the fairies come to life through
their wit, tone and comical lines. We meet Queen Clarion,
Fawn, Iridessa, Rosetta, Silvermist along with some others.
Each of their characters are so endearing and fascinating
that it would be of no surprise if each of them would end up
with their own film, but for now let's continue to enjoy
this DVD.
