REVIEW: TOWELHEAD

12/19/08

SYNOPSIS: A young
Lebanese-American girl struggles with her sexual obsession,
a bigoted Army reservist and her strict father during the
Gulf War.
REVIEW: Based on the
critically acclaimed novel by Alicia Erian, written for
the screen and directed by Alan Ball (Oscar® winning writer
of American Beauty and creator of Six Feet Under), Towelhead
is the disturbing type with a touch of dark dramatic/comedy
that is not far
from reality.
Once again Alan Ball has taken another suburban life story
exposing many issues of today's society. This time
around the issues don't revolve around a dysfunctional
family like in "American Beauty". In his directorial debut
Ball has just created a film that will be sensitive for many
and a cruel awake for others. Ball presents
some of the consequences in a crude way that can be very
disturbing for some audiences. This film is more that
just the story of a 13 year old girl trying to cope with her
sexual obsession. Ball clearly and ironically exposes the
reasons why this young girl is driven into that behavior.
Alan Ball established himself as a talented and realistic writer
in "American Beauty" and now in "Towelhead", he has done the same as
a director.
DVD: The film is
presented in a 2.35:1 aspect ration, with a 5.1 Dolby
Digital surround sound in English and Francais. It also
