REVIEW: Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
04/06/08
It is not surprising to see
films released theatrically at the wrong time specially if
those films are being released by The Weinstein Company.
What is really surprising is to see a big production company
like Sony Pictures, make the decision to release Walk Hard:
The Dewey Cox Story on a Christmas week. A film that would
have benefit from a different released day. The film managed
to make only $14 millions dollars at the box office with a
theatrical run of only three weeks. Not even the many
positive reviews received by critics from around the country
helped support its debut. Someone has to be on probation for
this mistake.
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox
Story was directed Jake Kasdan and produced by the new Jerry
Bruckheimer of comedy Judd Apatow. The screenplay for the
film was written by Jake Kasdan and Judd Apatow. The film is
a parody to some of the musical legends films released in
recent years. Ray Charles, Elvis Presley Jim Morrison and
Johnny Cash. Mainly the film follows the story line of the
film "Walk the Line".
The film exploits many of
the clichés and music from the music legends films and
present them in a laugh out loud sequence of events that it
would be hard not to make you smile. The film has Judd
Apatow's signature all the way. John C Reilly's performance
as Dewey Cox is as good as it can get in a comedy of this
caliber. Performance that earned him a Golden Globe
nomination for Best Performance by an
Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
This DVD will be released
on April 8, 2008 and it comes in two versions. The
