WHITE NOISE 2

01/08/08

White Noise 2: The Light is the sequel of Universal’s 2005
film White Noise. The curious thing about this movie is that
it does not have any reference to its first part, as matter
of fact, I don’t even think it mentions anything or have to
do with the original; the movie could have been called
perfectly The Light and it would have made more sense. That
aside, the movie goes beyond its predecessor, the story is
more elaborated, the make up and special effects surpass its
original; out of the two this one should have come out in
the theaters. Sadly, this movie also is a big let down,
after watching a well elaborated and disturbing trailer of
the movie, the expectations are higher of what you get .
White Noise 2 will be available on DVD format January 8
2008.
Abe Dale (Nathan Fillon) is a successful man that has it
all: a good job, beautiful wife, and a adorable son. One
day, while having breakfast on the towns dinner , a crazy
Man comes in ,shoots and kill his wife and son with no
apparent reason, and then shoot himself. Abe is devastated
and depressed. He does not concentrates in his job and only
blame himself for what happen to his family. His depression
gets to a point that he decides to end his life with an
overdose. Luckily, for Abe, his best friend Marty finds out
in time and rushing to the hospital. Abe technically dies
for some time but is brought back by the doctors with shock
therapy. If only he knew that his Near Death Experience gave
him the ability to know when people are going to die by a
strange light he sees on people, and with great power comes
great responsibility, or that is what Abe thinks he tries to
be hero and save as many people he can with out realizing
that the choice taken can be a horrible mistake. He
discovers that three days after saving someone, horrible
things start happening around the saved and learns that
interfering with the natural flow of life has a heavier
price than what he thought. in this process to fixed what he
has done he will discovered many things about him and
family.
The idea of making a movie about Near Death Experiences and
communication with the death sounds intriguing and
appropriate for a horror movie, white noise 2 does not apply
the idea as its best. The movie will surprise the audience
in some scenes making them jump out of the sit, however
these scenes are limited. The movie focuses more in the
quest of saving lives than actually ending them, this adds
some kind of suspense to the film but at the same time takes
away the horror part of the movie. Also the director did not
seem to maximized the used of the spirits to make a more
scarier movie, after the first tree appearances they become
just spectators of what is happening. there is some symbolic
aspect of this movie, which I personally like, involving the
bible that could have been better exploited.
The positive things about this movie is that it has a better
plot than the first one, the cast did a great job performing
their character. Nathan Fillon did an outstanding
performance showing emotion and personality, the audience
will feel sympathy and will share his pain. Kathee Sackhoff
also showed us how good of actress she can be. The
supporting cast also did great. The special effects, Make up
and sound was also great. A major plus for fans of the
supernatural is one scene filmed some scenes in an actual
hunted Hospital, The Weyburn Mental Hospital.
White Noise 2 overall, is better than its original; It has
more atmosphere, and it is more detailed. The movie has a
pretty good beginning but lacks a twist at the end. The
audience would foresee the end 30 minutes before the movie
is over. I recommended this movie for fans of the thriller
genre for the suspense it has, nonetheless if you are trying
to get scared I recommend just to watch the Trailer 4 and
five times and that will do it.
