Wild Hogs
08/12/07

It is becoming very popular
for directors to have an all star cast in their films. In
most cases this idea has produced wining combinations like
in "The Departed" and "Ocean's Thirteen".
That is not
the case in films like "Bobby" which was snob by critics
and movie goers. Director Walt Becker followed this all star
cast idea in "Wild Hogs" by casting two actors who started
as stand up comedians Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence and two
natural born actors John Travolta and William Macy. The
combination of real comedians and real actors on paper looks
like a very bad formula, however Walt Becker managed to
create a humorous adventure film that is one hundred percent
"wild".
"Wild Hogs" is the story of
four friends Doug (Tim Allen), Woody (John Travolta), Bobby
(Martin Lawrence) and Dudley (William H. Macy), running away
from they stressful daily routines and problems. Who decide
to go in a road trip across the country from Cincinnati to
the West Coast in motorcycle. Everything is fun and
adventure with jokes and confessions among these friends,
but the misfortunate hits them when they encounter the Del
Fuegos, a real biker gang.
The screenplay is not the
best, but it managed to create a story that contains humor,
action, adventure and romance. One of the problem with the
story is that there is not enough background on the life of
John Travolta and William Macy' characters; however, as soon
as the road trip begins nobody really cares about it.
As far as Tim Allen, Martin
Lawrence, John Travolta, and William Macy's performance
goes, it was enjoyable to see these four together. It truly
shows that they had chemistry and they enjoyed working
together to the point of actually transferring the joy to
the audiences in every scene. The scene where they stop to
camp the first night of the trip was outrageous. On the
other hand, big disappointment with Ray Liotta's role as Del
Fuegos leader. His overacting in most part of the film was
inevitable and not hard to notice. Definitely Ray should
stick to dramas and forget about this type of comedies. Not
everything was bad about the supporting cast , as always
Marisa Tomei did an excellent job giving the fact that she
didn't have too many extended scenes.
Finally the cinematography
was breath taking. director Walt Becker captured in detail
the beauty of traveling along the American roads.
At the end of the day "Wild
Hogs" is a funny and enjoyable film that will keep audience
one hundred percent entertained for one hour and forty
minutes without any regrets.
