REVIEW: YES MAN

04/06/09

SYNOPSIS: Carl Allen
has stumbled across a way to shake free of post-divorce
blues and a dead-end job: embrace life and say yes to
everything. Working every funny bone in his nimble body and
every muscle in his hilariously mobile face, Jim Carrey
plays Carl in a YEScapade about opening up to lifes
possibilities especially when those possibilities include
romance with an intriguing, free-spirited musician (Zooey
Deschanel). From the director of The Break-Up comes an
invitation to discover the comedy power of yes.
REVIEW: After a disappointed outing in 2007 with the
forgettable thriller "The Number 23", Jim Carrey returned to
the big screen last Holiday season with the comedy "Yes
Man". A film based on a memoir of the same name by British
humorist Danny Wallace. "Yes Man" had an estimated $70
millions dollar budget and managed to collected only about $92
millions in its theatrical run, falling short of expectation.
Unfortunately for Jim Carrey, after he declined salary for
his role in the film, in exchange for a 36.2% of the film's gross after
production and marketing cost are recovered. Warner Bros
Home Entertainment is releasing "Yes Man" on DVD and Blu-ray
on April 7 2009, hoping for better luck on the small screen.
When I first saw the
trailer, the first thing that came to mind was Jim's 1997
comedy "Liar Liar", a film that had its funny parts, but it
was as forgettable as "The Number 23". With that in mind I
wasn't expecting much out of "Yes Man", however I was very
surprised on how enjoyable the film was. In this film Carrey
returns to his forte of comical facial expressions that have
making him famous, also his natural ability to perform
comedy is appreciated throughout the film. Yes, the
film is very similar to "Liar Liar", however this time I
felt the story was better more realistic, more attractive,
with a better flavor in the mouth at the end of the movie
and of course it made me laugh in several occasions.
There is no doubt that "Yes
Man" was a victim of its similarities with "Liar Liar", yet
this is one of those film that deserves a change and who
knows you may enjoy it as I did. The film is not Jim
Carrey's best comedy, but it is better than his
last two films.

available
