Eye of the Beholder : Friday January 28,  2000

Eye of the Beholder  is a startling journey into obsession, the story of an intelligence agent so taken with a beautiful killer he cannot bear to apprehend her. Set in the surreal world of a high-tech voyeur, the tale follows him across the county as he embarks on a desperate quest for this enigmatic femme fatale.
Ewan McGregor stars as The Eye, a lonely, isolated British intelligence agent who has lost his wife and daughter, for which he blames his own unforgivable inaction. Yet detachment is part of the job.
The Eye's current mission is to track Joanna Eris (Ashley Judd), a woman suspected of blackmailing the son of a senior British official. But Eris is far more than a blackmailer. She is a seductive, shadowy master of disguises, a frenzied murderer, a lost orphan and an abject mystery whose rage is as fierce as her beauty..  -- © Destination Film

The People's Review of Eye of the Beholder

This movie is one of the worst I've ever seen, including "Ishtar." It might have been more comprehensible had the director been less pretentious. A promising premise was destroyed by vain direction and uninspired acting.  K.D. Lang and Jason Priestley were particularly bad. The very fact that an art student rated this movie as a "must see" should tell you all you need to know.  Avoid this stink bomb like it's the second coming of the plague.  Your life is short and time is precious: Don't waste it on garbage like this!

Potentially the worst movie I have ever seen!  I thought about walking out of the theater many times.  As soon as it was over, the entire audience laughed at how terrible the experience was.  One man looked at me and said, "We got ripped off."  Another said, "I've been scammed into spending 7 bucks on this worthless piece of sh@$#@t!" Do not waste your time with this.  Don't even rent it when it comes out.  The ONLY THING WORTHWHILE in this entire movie was a 2 second nude scene of Ashley Judd.  That's it.

can anyone tell me what the hell this movie is about?  i was so lost, i had no idea what was going on.  and then the ending?  what the hell happened? this movie is so random and none of the pieces make any kind of puzzle.  i'm almost tempted to watch it again to see if i missed anything, but i'm not sure i want to waste my money.

I was left with the impression that this may have been the sequel to Random Hearts.  This movie sucked worse than the person sitting in front of me with Dots stuck in his teeth!  These theaters should start offering us refunds for wasting our time and money.

I watch many movies since I am a art student has to deal with alot things that are delt with in movies. I found this movie to be very interesting. It makes sense to me if it doesnt some others. Yeah a few people in the theator I was in laughed at the ending and boo'ed still laughing at their lack of understanding. This movie is much like Talented Mr Ripley in the way it makes you like the killer. Its in essence just a love story. Whats there not to understand?

The problem with this movie is very typical, a writer/director who so understands his own characters, but fails to realize that we can not see into his mind.  He needed someone to point out that while all so much fascinates him, he never gave us a reason why we should care.  I agree with Mark, the 2 second nude scene was the best part.  And KD Lang should stick to music instead of acting, or actually she should just find a whole new career out of the public eye altogether.
