Fight Club: Friday October   15, 1999

From one of the greatest and most talented directors to ever walk the earth, comes a story that challenges the way we think You've probably heard of a little movie titled Seven or The Games. Both of these were directed by David Fincher. So given that, we can expect a dark and interesting tale told in a bold new way.

One of those rare and precious films that rachets you to a whole new evolutionary level - if you're ready. This isn't about enacting violence against others, it's about allowing Life to maul you freely. If you don't get it, you ate the clam chowder. Maybe in the next lifetime.

I thought this movie was excellent! I had to watch it a couple of times in order to get the bits and pieces in there correct places. This movie really makes you think! I don't think i have seen a movie this good for a long time. If you are looking for a movie that is full of action with some comedic entrances, then this movie is definatly worth seeing for you!

I was at a party when I first saw this movie. I'll admit that, at the time, I was thinking "oh great, another lame action movie." From the first ten minutes I could tell that I was terribly wrong. I think the details about how much I enjoyed every aspect of this movie need not be mentioned by the mere fact that I gave it a 100. I'm a picky movie-rater too. I wanted to point out the intelligent comments from all people who gave Fight Club high ratings. I'd hate to say it, but for those of you who bash it, maybe you just don't get it. Suddenly, you fight club bashers are making me "want to put a bullet in the head of every panda that wouldn't mate to save it's own species."

Just wow, this movie keeps you so interested from beginning all the way to the end. You had to see this one in the Theatre to get the full feel of the movies awsome visuals and the music and sound just pulls you away. There is no other film that can top Fight Club, it is a one of a kind masterpiece.

I definitely thought that this movie was clever. Many ingenious satirical comments. Somewhat depressing, but offered much food for thought. Those who cannot see through the violence are close-minded. If you are lacking in the intellectual department, this movie is not for you. A must see.

I SAW THE SHOW OPENING NIGHT. I THOUGHT IT WAS HILARIOUSLY CLEVER! I NEVER EXPECTED IT TO BE THAT FUNNY. I ALSO THOUGHT THE SCRIPT WAS TWISTEDLY EINSTIEN! I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH A SMART MOVIE. IT PLAYED WITH YOU'RE BRAIN, SCRATCHING AT IT AND PUTTING PRESSURE ON IT TO GET THE GAME TYLER'S PLAYING. <***spoiler removed***> SURE THEIR WAS FIGHTING VIOLENCE BUT THEIR IS THE SAME STUFF IN HORRORS AND ACTION SO WHY IS EVERYONE MAKING SUCH A BIG DEAL OVER THIS. THEIR WAS HARDLY ANY KILLING AND IT HAD COMEDY. EVERYONE WHO SAYS IT'S JUST ABOUT VIOLENCE...GO BACK HOME AND DO WHAT YOU ALWAYS DO, RENT THE SERIES OF CHILDS PLAY.

This is by far the best film i've ever seen! The acting is outstanding! The directing is amazeing! And the story line is pure genius! I've seen it twice so far, and would have to say it's even better the second time! To me this movie is about one person wanting to change his entire life, he just goes about it in a radical way. If you listen to the films you go and see, and absorb the content. Then you will find Fight Club will get inside you and make you think!!! And is'nt that the point of a really good film!?

I want to buy Fight Club when it hits video. Then I want to EDIT out about 50% of the movie. The profanity starts off mildly enough, but unfortunatly didn't stay mild. The violence started off sensible (if there is such a thing) but then when ballistic. The story started off very interesting but became ridiculous. And this whole splicing porn thing didn't fit with either the movie, the character or the story. And what this may cause today's brainwashed teens to do is become more violent and uncaring of others property and rights. First rule of Fight Club: DO NOT SEE FIght Club, especially with anyone under 18, come on people, I saw 6 yr olds and 10 year olds in the theater, what kind of kids do you want raised??? Wake up people, we are still HUMANS, not animals...no matter how Hollywood wants to paint us.

THIS FILM IS YET ANOTHER MASTERPIECE BY DAVID FINCHER, AND I WOULD SAY HIS BEST BY FAR.   I HAVE READ REVIEWS BY FILM CRITICS WHO CONDEMN THIS FILM, BUT ALL THE REVIEWS I HAVE READ BY YOUR AVERAGE JOE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PRAISE AND MORE PRAISE.  MAYBE BECAUSE ITS ABOUT THE AVERAGE JOE, AND THE ACTIVITY OF HIS HUMAN MIND.

Hey aquaboy relax, you are so worry when films depicts things that are harsher, or blunt. Stop being so moralistic, just because it frightens you, it is okay, life is a unbelievable mystery, but it is beautiful. All the problems in the world you are seing comes from the fact that people are trying to be good and moral, and by not doing or showing how they are really feelin`. Films like plesantville, american beauty are scratching that surface and it feels really good. Cheers

I wouldn't try to give this movie a score, so "none" is not meant as "zero." However. One thing about "Fight Club" was painfully obvious. There was a constant undertone of repressed homosexuality, of "men's house" culture, that never came within a million miles of being acknowledged. I mean, come on! Nothing but bare-chested, sweaty, blood-covered men in this movie laying violent hands on each other, and then ONE woman tossed in (Helena Bonham-Carter) to prove that the main characters weren't gay! Of course, SHE never got to participate in the fight club, because "women just don't have those violent impulses," you see. Actually, the mere existence of this film proves THAT wrong-- seeing it made me want to beat someone up. It was an inventive film, and a lot of people would enjoy it. Those who wouldn't are free to stay away. So I don't criticize the profanity or violence. But if it had been made with an all-female cast and one man thrown in, that would have been the first thing everyone saw. Why is the opposite somehow beneath notice???

I really wasn't thrilled with this movie I found it hard to follow. I didn't like the idea of being left hanging. In my opinion this movie was just brainless blood and guts. Although the action was pretty good i'll give it points for that. 6 on a scale of 1 to 10.

This was one of the best movies I've ever seen !! I've never seen such a combination   of humor and violence in a movie before, but in this picture it turned out be a perfect combination

Review of "Fight Club" by Paul Mc Connell

The "Fight Club" has to be one of the decades premium films. It stars two of the best young male actors around at present and is the new outing by David Fincher,of Se7en fame.

Edward Norton,is bored. He is sick of his life and all that he digests and is unhappy with his slave to consumerism stature,
this then drops him into the rings of self help groups where he finds fufillment and the ability tosleep again.
The peace is rudely interupted by Marla Singer,a chain smoking tourist (someone who visits the help groups to ease their inner demons when they don`t even have that disease) who infiltrates the sessions as Norton did.
This causes a lapse of serenity for Norton, then he can`t sleep and things fall apart until he meets the enigmatic Tyler Durden (Pitt on career best form). He shows him that life is about experience and not material wealth........thus begins Fight Club.

The film draws on a lot of resources to create it`s splendour:
Norton as the Narrator with his unbelievable dialogue.
Bonham Carter as the suicidal smoker Marla
and most of all Pitt as the films centric enigma.

Pitt has of late been following the Leonardo DiCaprio school of thought with "Seven Years I Tibet" and "The Devils Own"
but this is more of a Johnny Depp ethos as he must ,by now , have lost all 14 year old girls as fans due to the chipped tooth and explicit fights.

Fight Club is definitey my second fave of the year after the Matrix. In a way we cannot compare them but this films message overlooks the violence, of which there is little in my opinion, as Norton and Pitt try desperately to live instead of being society`s poster boys.

This is a mindblowing movie, you may very well try to talk me into that it isn't. Still I see that the wholeness of the movie gives you this years movie experience.

I couldn't say that I really got it. The whole film is so complex. How come it worked? What is so fascinating about anarchy? Why did the Narrator want for it to happen? He must have want it, otherwise his personality wouldn't have split. Or was it always split? Why wasn't he able to get sleep before? Was it because of his unhappiness? But was he more happy in the fight club? How come it worked? Why did they enjoy being humiliated? Control... they enjoyed having Tyler in control. The power of anarchy. What I find confusing is that the film refers to a lot  of psychological and social-critical elements. But in the end nothing is clear. Thinking about the movie, I've got to say that it's divine. But it has to be seen again. Just as pulp fiction can't be watched merely for one time.

Just as one is able to accept how Calvin gets along with Hobbes, why can't Carina accept the concept of mental unstability in Fight Club? The theme is definitely degrading the values of humanity, but hey, what the heck with knowing a little bit about yourself? Fincher, a toast to your movie.

Beautifully crafted masterpiece that just blew me away, and left me with the same feeling of having the carpet renched out from under me that "The Game" did.  I must admit that when I first saw the previews, I thought this movie was going to be a brawler with very little brains.  This is not the case. In fact, the violence is downplayed to the point that you could count the amount of deaths on one hand. (But the fights can get a little brutal, like one fight when Edward Norton lets loose on a poor follower) All in all a great flick, which made me society in a whole new light, which I believe was probably Fincher's idea to begin with.

Tyler Durdon
score = 100
I thought that Fight Club was one of the best movies Ive ever seen, but, if you are the churchy type, you'd better stay home, for Fight Club is chock full of violence and mayhem. Unfortunatley, people who see this movie are the type who like the kicking-the-crap-outta-each-other stuff. I didn't think that was what this movie was about at all. My interpretation of the movie was of a man who was trying to break free from capitalism and consumerism, and he couldn't and it was driving him insane. I definitly thought that this movie was NOT about fighting.

This is one of the best movies that I have seen this year. I dont want to give away to much of the movie, but Brad Pitt and Edward Norton did a very good job. I think alot of people didnt like the movie because they are to sensitive and cant deal with the raw power that this movie offers. It makes you think about how your own live is run,and how you live it. David Fincher directs the movie perfect. I also have read the book, and I could say that its one of the most interesting books I have read in a long time. The book also goes right along with the movie.Unlike alot of books to movies have done. Anyway if your looking for a different kind of movie check out Fight Club.

I don't know what these critics were thinking.  I believed Fight Club was the best film of 99 and I'm pissed it didn't get an oscar nominee.  But my personal choices never do.  Hollywood is afraid today, they see a good movie and they don't give their true feelings on it in order to sound mature.  This kicks it more than any drama movie!  Rock on Fincher, wake up Ebert!

Fight Club is a daring movie: a brilliant satire bordering on horror. Upon watching it, however, I was puzzled at how anyone could feel that this film advocates violence. Far from glorifying the acts of violence inherent to the plot, I felt that it was really sort of a character study of an entire mentality; a freakish look at masculinity gone horribly awry. Dealing with such issues as homoeroticism, materialism, and the emasculation of the American male and the viability of anarchy as a lifestyle choice, the movie never struck me as painting a positive picture of the events that ensue in the least. To me, the notion that males need to seek out the violent little boys in themselves in order to feel alive is rather pathetic and a sad commentary on our society. I believe Fincher knew this, and as one reviewer said, he is "in on the joke." Fight Club was a haunting, disturbing and, at times, hilarious satire. How anyone could take it as a blueprint for male empowerment is beyond me. Fincher was interviewed about the movie shortly after it was released in theatres, and asked the reporter, almost pleadingly, "You thought it was funny, right?" Sorry, David. I don't think most people got it. For those of us that did, however, it was a tremendously entertaining and thought-provoking thrill ride, well-made and hard to shake, even days after viewing. Great film ... great acting, great cinematography, and, most of all, brilliantly directed.
