Gravitas Ventures has secured North American rights to coming-of-age drama “All We Had,” which premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival. Katie Holmes (“Ray Donovan,” “Batman Begins”) makes her feature directorial debut with the film, based on Annie Weatherwax’s 2014 novel of the same name. Holmes also stars with Stefania Owen (“The Carrie Diaries”), Luke Wilson (“Roadies”), Richard Kind (“Inside Out”), Mark Consuelos (“Queen of the South”), Judy Greer (“Ant-Man”) and Eve Lindley (“Mr. Robot”).
“All We Had” will be available in theaters and On Demand December 9.
Fifteen-year-old Ruthie Carmichael (Owen) makes the best of her mother Rita’s (Holmes) hard luck. From escaping an abusive boyfriend, to living out of their car, and going flat broke – the duo continues to find themselves in search of a home and stability. This coming of age story explores the emotional bond between a mother and a daughter who overcome hardship by depending on their strength in each other.
“As an actress, I have been honored to work on sets my entire career with directors who have inspired me,” states Holmes. “I have always wanted to direct so that I could be not only a part of the process, but to bring a story to life from inception to completion. I was so fortunate on my directorial debut to be surrounded by an incredibly talented cast and crew that supported my vision. In addition to starring in and directing “All We Had,” Holmes is also a producer alongside Jane Rosenthal (“Meet the Parents”), Berry Welsh (“The Wizard of Lies”) and Katie Mustard (“Shelter”). James L. Dolan, Josh Boone (“The Fault in Our Stars”) and Jill Killington (“Cardboard Boxer”) are the Executive Producers. Boone and Killington also wrote the script based on Weatherwax’s book.
The deal was negotiated by Nolan Gallagher for Gravitas and ICM Partners on behalf of the filmmakers.
