this movie is the best one to come out in a long time.  i loved this movie and would love to be in it.  it is a great horror movie that has a lot of messed up twists and deranged comedy, that to me was sickly funny.  esp. the part where the girl gets pulled into the vat with the blood in it. this is the best movie i own.

comments = OK, granted I was a little drunk while watching this one; but reviews confirm my memories ;).  The first five minutes were great, but its one of those movies with some hits, outdone by far too many misses.  Certainly there were several mint moments in the movie, but there were also many sad attempts at comedy as well as some really grotty scenes!! (hey, some people go for that I spose).

This movie is trash to the max...    I have a copy of the original and it is a genuinely fun, Haloween-special movie of that ilk tha is campy but not condescending or absurd.  Actually the original plot was probably a rip-off of Agatha Cristie's "And Then There Were None" and Vincent Price did a fine job with it. This Haunted Hill is a losers' convention full of cheap, but repugnant gross-outs and characters you could care less about. Also the language is pathetic...these types trying to be so hip and reduced to four letter snarling ad nauseum.  See the original...it is clever.  This is...as they say without socially redeeming anything. THE BIG NADA!

This was the scariest movie, I have ever seen!!!! It seriously makes the Blair Witch and Scream look like Barney's Great Adventure! It was really gory and my eyes were being covered by my hands almost through out the movie because only 3% of the movie was talk, and the other 97% was jumping intensity! I think you shouldn't see this movie IF you have a bad heart because this is some scary stuff! The weird think is though is that the middle and the begining of the movie was a 100 times scarier than the ending, thats just a bunch of cheese but the rest of the movie prior to it makes up for it! It was a really really freaky movie!!!!!!

Disturbing,evil, full of suspense. This movie shook me like no other I have seen in a long, long time. Sure it doe snot beat the classic and there is heavy use of computer animation. SO WHAT! The story was great, the props and staging were excellent! The true "Evil Insane Asylum" look is well done! It blew me away in every sense, from sound to screams. Just excellent! When I was watching 4 couples up and left because they could not handle it! Go see it, but beware. Lots of blood, gore and disturbing scenes.

What are the rest of you people writing about?  No one but Arthur McV. seems to have seen the same House on Haunted Hill that I just did.  It was the worst movie of this year.  Geoffrey Rush should be ashamed that he had anything to do with it.  If this is the kind of celluloid crap he is going to do,he should just give back his Oscar now.  As for the rest of the talentless cast, they were the most awful ensemble assembled for a movie in years.  Were the casting directors on drugs?  The special effects were a joke and the plot was nonexistent.  The script just seemed to be an excuse for a bunch of bad actors to pretend they have a career and yell obscenities a lot.  It's pretty sad when you leave a film thinking that Lisa Loeb gave the best performance.

Not only is this movie one of the most visually and truly horrific films, but I don't scare easily and this movie had my eyes covered with my hands for most of the time.  Congrats on getting good actors and acclaimed filmmakers to put this piece of work together.  This movie gets under your skin and will not leave you psyche for a long time.  The other remake "The Haunting" was a disappointment - not scary at all.  This film gives new meaning to sleeping with the lights on!! Because I did when I got home!

I thought the movie was great.  I've seen a lot of horror, mystery movies, and this was scary as well as extremely gory.  I recommend this movie to everyone over 15. The ending kind of sucked, I wouldn't waste $6 dollars because of the ending, but go see it.

This exceptionally well played out suspense will either keep you on the edge of your seat, or will make you leave. The plot and setting of this movie sets you up for the intense horror to come.  The ending left you hanging, but the rest of the movie made up for it. This movie contains many gory scenes, and is definitely not for the weak-hearted!  I would recommend this movie to any horror fan!!!

Not frightening, just gory.  Nice old film remade as a spatter flick. Good industrial punk atmosphere, but filled with throw away characters and continuity errors out the wazoo stretching plausibility to the breaking point. You want to see a ghost story? This isn't it.  You like teeny-bopper spatter flicks?  This one's for you.

If you are looking to get the wits scared out of you, this is a good movie to go and see. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and there were at least six instances when I leaped right out of my seat. This movie may be a bit too graphic for those who get queasy about gore, but all in all its a great horror movie. I gaurentee you'll be sleeping with the lights on after you see this one!!!!

Very surreal in some spots.  It had a good beginning and middle but the end was hollywood trash!  IT was like, hey weve only got 20 minutes to finish this movie!!   Some spots were truly horrific.  There is one scene(the first victim) where she sees a "person" ,and instantly it is in front of her with a horrific face screaming at her!!  Very Very surreal.  Some it was trash, but some scenes were some of the scarest scenes I have ever seen(and I have seen many) in films.

Loved it. It was scary, suspencefull, and funny. I want to see it again. Loved the rollercoaster scene. Absolutely hillarious. Geoffrey, Famke, Ali, Taye,Mellisa, Chris, and Peter did an excellent job with there parts. Can't wait to see it again. Those who didn't like it, stop putting those who loved it down. You put everybody involved with the movie down with your rude, inconsiderit messages. The cast, the crew, and everybody else who were involved did a wonderful job. Thank you for a great movie. This movie is one I will definetly buy. House on Haunted Hill rocks.

I loved every part except for the ending.  The end seemed lazy.  It could have been a better ending.  I would like to see a movie about this Dr. Vannacutt.   The beginning of the movie could be a movie in itself.  I hope you make a sequel to House on Haunted Hill.

There are some people who go to movies and watch the flick expecting it to reach out and lead them by their ignorant, unimaginative hand.  These people never enjoy ANY movie (hence all the 70 or less ratings here)to speak of. Suspend your disbelief and you'll enjoy movies more.  Thats the whole point of seeing a movie.  I just saw it, putting myself in the place of the various characters, and it scared the S$%T out of me.   GREAT FLICK.  VERY disturbing, although I would have personally liked some more background as to WHY everything went to crap in 1930.  What caused Vonnegut to got so very insane?  Also, more details on the experiments done and why.....maybe a prequel.....?

OK. I will say the plot kinda drifted.....but thats ok- because the whole movie was terrifying. Most "scary" movies I've been to lately have all been a joke to the word "scary". But this movie has got to be one of the most seat jumping flicks I've EVER seen. Like I said-I have to deduct points for having such an unoriginal plot. But over all the movie is great. The sounds and effects are fantastic. The ending wasn't really scary or great~ but the rest of the setting and movie made up for it.

Alright, people.  I gave this movie a 90 and you want to know why? House on Haunted Hill provided for cheap entertainment regarding different interests of different demographics.  However, this movie was disturbing, demented, terrifying, and gory all in one.  It had bloody scenes (many of them), yet it was truly suspenseful.   What was so frightening was the fact that there really is no way to tame a ghost.   I want to keep away from comparing this to Blair Witch, but in my eyes, this was so much more frightening.  It has all the perfected makings of a classic Hollywood horror flick, and I highly commend William Malone.  Keep up the good work

I find it hard to believe that anyone could enjoythis movie.  It was complete trash!  The dialogue revolved around vulgar language and the absolut worst one liners.  There was also unneeded sexual tension between some of the characters. It was hard to view this movie as anything but a superficial show of lust, pretty peoople, bad language and a really bad script.

After it was over (didn't know about the scenes after the credits) me and my friend were waiting for her mom (who went to the rest room)outside the the place where the screen was.Well we were talking about the movie and I had my back to the door.I did not know there people still in there. The door opened behind me and jumped atleased 3ft off the ground. It scared the heck out of me. Me and my friend were laughing our heads off when her mom found us.

This has got to be the most god-awful movie I have ever seen.  I figured with Geoffrey Rush in it it would be good.  It sucked.  The acting was awful, the script was awful, Chris Kattan would have been funnier playing Mango in this movie than that stupid character he played.  The new soultion for screenwriters now is to throw as many plot twists in the end of a movie to try and make it interesting and for any movie that does not work.  This movie should have never been made.

Its OK. The Haunting was worse and this better. The Steven Price character was interseting as it reminded me something of the real Vincent price in the original movie. Other than the fact the Price character was entertaining the movie was an OK haunting picture. Scary, no. But entertaining yes...barely.

Compared to the recent remake of "The Haunting" I'd say that this movie is pretty . The cinematography is gourgeous, and the overall atmosphere is at times pretty creepy. It actually got under my skin at a few times, which doesn't happen often, but that might just because of my strong dislikning to SM images which this has plenty of. Director Malone, does some pretty intresting things with this picture. But the violent sexual images creeped me out in away that I didn't want/ I'm sure Mike Castle and Vincent Price are rolling in their graves with this picture. But I do give kudos to Geoffery Rush are being a surprisingly replacement for the great Vincent Price, and the sound effects and and set design are amazing. But Malone adds a little too much gore to a movie that doesn't need it. The script is pretty piss poor too, but almost all horror movies today have that problem. It's entertaing and at times entertaining,but not for the squeamish or easily offended. This movie borderlines on tasteless and obscene.
