High Fidelity: Friday March 31, 2000

In a biting romantic comedy, Rob Gordon (John Cusack) is the owner of a semi-failing record store in Chicago, where he sells music the old-fashioned way -- on vinyl. He's a self-professed music junkie who spends his days at Championship Vinyl with his two employees, Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black). Although they have an encyclopedic knowledge of pop music and are consumed with the music scene, it's of no help to Rob, whose needle skips the love groove when his long-time girlfriend, Laura (Iben Hjejle), walks out on him. As he examines his failed attempts at romance and happiness, the process finds him being dragged, kicking and screaming, into adulthood. -- © 2000 Touchstone Pictures

The People's Review of High Fidelity

When I found out High Fidelity was coming out, I counted days until it opened.  I read the book a few years agao and thougt it was the greatest.  I was a little skeptical since many times movies fall short of the books they were created from.  THis one though...perfect.  The acotrs were great, the dialogue wonderful and the overall effect was excellent. It's a movie many people can relate to and it's such fun to watch. I've gone to see it a few times already and I wouldn't mind going to see it some more. I recommend it to everyone.

this is definately one of the best movies i´ve seen in a long time. it has all it needs:a comedy & party beginning, then sex and deep ending, and of course a great cast and a great soundtrack . this movie is a must see

When I fall asleep, I dream that I am Rob waxing nostalgic about ex-girlfriends and the music I "autobiographically" made it with them to. Also, who DOESN"T know of or have a friend like Dick or Barry in their lives. Bravo Stephen Frears; Bravo John Cusack; Bravisimo Jack Black!!!  Four bright shining stars for this flick; I can't wait to read the book.

This is a must see for any guy that's ever had a girlfriend. Cusack is excellent as is Jack Black (who steals many of the scenes) and the rest of the cast. Excellent direction, great shots of the local Chicago clubs and the music was well chosen and placed. I would recommend this movie to anyone with a pulse. The sad part is that most guys that I know that have seen this, including myself, see far too much of themselves in Cusack's character. Best movie so far this year.

This movie is perfect for any music fan/snob.  It is no doubt hilarious even if you don't get the references but it's REALLY hilarious if you do. The dialogue is fantastic.
