REVIEW: INKHEART

01/20/09

SYNOPSIS: Inkheart is a timeless adventure tale of imagination that
centers on Meggie, a young girl whose father has a secret
ability to bring characters from books to life when he reads
them aloud. But when a power-hungry villain from a rare
children’s fable kidnaps Meggie’s father to bring others out
of the boundaries of fiction, she and a disparate group of
friends both real and magic embark on the kind of adventure
she has only read about in books to save him and set things
right.
REVIEW: After being in the arks of New Line Cinema
for more than a year, finally we got the opportunity to see
Inkheart. A film based on a best-selling book of the same
name by acclaimed German author Cornelia Funke. A book
adaptation that barely meets expectations.
The main problem with this
adaptation has to be the screenplay. This is a screenplay
that fails to create excitement, adventure and imagination.
Ingredients which are the essence of a good adventure
fantasy film. It seems like the filmmakers were more worry
about keeping the PG rating than into adding some excitement
and darkness to film. For the most part the film is very
slow. It is only the cast, who gave the movie enough to keep
watching. The one character that I felt stood out was
Dustfinger played by Paul Bettany. He has been in my radar
ever since his performance in “A Knight Tale”. He was the
one that was able to make a real connection with the
audience with its mystery and comedy.
There is no doubt that this book had
the potential for being a great movie and it is a shamed
that the filmmakers where not able to take the best out of
this great book. Jeopardizing the possible adaptation of the
next two books in the trilogy Inkspell and Inkdeath.

I absolutely loved this
movie! I decided to read the books too
and I am starting the sequil this week.
This is a great story that involves
imagination and excitement. Corneila
Funke makes you feel like you are right
there with the characters. It is a fun
book to read and I couldn't put it down.
The action is wonderfull. This is a good
book and movie for teenagers. I really
enjoyed and i hope you will too.
P.S. They are planning on having movies
for the other books. I really hope they
do! I Just love Corneila's style of
writing. Have fun reading the triology!
