SYNOPSIS: The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. 

Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

REVIEW: 

Rita Vrataski: Come find me when you wake up!

Yeah, because after you finish watching this movie you will think you were dreaming. Nah, just kidding, but I do think that you will think you were on a hell of a ride. There seems to be an air of negativity surrounding this film and I don't know why. So I basically went into the screening with low expectations and left a very satisfied movie watcher. So instead of the quote above, I would say “come email me when you finish watching the movie” and tell me that I'm wrong by saying that this movie is very entertaining. It is intense, thrilling, action packed, jump in your seat fun. You will need to take a deep breath before it starts and after it’s over because you won’t have many opportunities to breathe during. And it reminds me of so many other movies, it’s not even funny. Let’s start with a non-stop action version of Groundhog Day on steroids. In one way or another we get various other flavors such as Next, Source Code, Starship Troopers, and District 9. It’s all of this in a one fun size fits all film starring an action flick living legend. Could this be the reason for the negativity . . . people are thinking it’s ripping off from all these other movies and it’s just another cookie cutter Tom Cruise action flick just to make a buck kinda deal? Eh, they might be right, but you know what, I still enjoyed it. Tom Cruise movies have a tremendous success rate. I don’t think he has ever made a complete flop. This film continues that trend. It’s hard for me not to compare it to Oblivion, one of his most recent movies that also has some similarities. While Oblivion was a little more thought provoking and intriguing (which is good, I really liked it as well), this one is more about the roller coaster ride (and that's not bad either). We get plenty of Tom Cruise doing his thing, mixed with a tough yet sexy Emily Blunt who was very sharp with her performance. Neither of them disappoint, probably ever. Bill Paxton, I must say, was quite impressive too with his relatively small role. Then we have some of the meanest aliens you will ever see on the big screen. These guys are nasty ferocious, fast, and unpredictable; basically a nightmare.

The world presented in this movie is in disarray thanks to an alien invasion. Humanity is fighting for its survival and in the process people have become cold and sadistic. It’s an “all hands on deck” together with a “whatever it takes” world fighting a hard to defeat foe. But with all that, the storyline is really not that complicated other than the “Live, Die, Repeat” going on which makes the story a bit more clever. Some say the title of the movie should be Respawn. Director Doug Liman is known for making quality action flicks such as The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Jumper, and Fair Game. With this one he is going a little more sci-fi but he does it in stride. I will conclude with a comment about the conclusion of this film using my new movie reviewer term. The movie ends with “conclusion confusion”. Maybe I should copyright that.
