Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Original Score and Best Production Design, MR. TURNER features an award-winning lead performance by veteran actor Timothy Spall (The King’s Speech) as British painter J.M.W. Turner. Spall was recognized for his role in the film with the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as by the New York Film Critics and the National Society of Film Critics. Additionally, the film’s Oscar®-nominated cinematographer, Dick Pope, was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography from the American Society of Cinematographers, and was honored with the Cannes Film Festival’s Vulcain Prize for the Technical Artist for “bringing to light the works of Turner.” In recognition of his remarkable body of work, writer/director Mike Leigh was named this year’s recipient of BAFTA’s John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing.
