Alex can't understand Linda's indifference
at the news of her daughter's death. His explanations seem
to have little of the expected impact. He soon realizes
Linda's uniqueness and finds out through her neighbor
Maggie, that she is autistic. Linda asks Alex to stay with
her to help her out with the things her daughter Vivienne
used to do and Alex agrees, perhaps out of guilt. The two
become closer than either could have imagined and when Alex
strikes up a relationship with Maggie, he realizes he has
gained more than he has given in the small town of Wawa
where he never dreamed he'd find himself in a million years.
