“The Exorcist: Martyrs” Introduces Supernatural Crime Thriller Starring Scarlett Johansson

Movie Trailers October 13, 2026

Academy Award® nominee Scarlett Johansson headlines The Exorcist: Martyrs, a new entry in one of cinema’s most enduring horror legacies. Written and directed by Mike Flanagan, the film marks the latest addition to his acclaimed body of work, which includes The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, and the upcoming Carrie. In theaters March 12, 2027.

This new chapter expands the mythology created by William Peter Blatty, blending supernatural terror with a crime‑driven narrative anchored by Johansson’s performance.

Thirteen years after ending the reign of satanic serial killer Father Sunday, New York City detective Julie Miller (Johansson) has built her life around the work that once made her a hero. But when a new murder scene bears her name written in an altar boy’s blood, Miller is forced to confront the darkness she believed she had buried.

She joins forces with Father William (Academy Award® nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor), a former prison chaplain who heard Father Sunday’s final confession, and Detective Gina Restrepo (Sasha Calle), a sharp newcomer determined to prove herself. Their investigation uncovers a disturbing thread connecting a lineage of serial killers—from H.H. Holmes to the Zodiac—suggesting a force that reaches beyond the mortal world and threatens everything Miller holds dear.
