In a world where
witches fly high in the sky, a place where people have
Demons, in form of animals, for spirits, and an
Alethiometer, a Golden Compass, that hold the key to the
truth. The movie the Golden Compass is based on the epic
adventure in Pullman's Trilogy. The preview for the movie
was exciting and I couldn't wait to see it. It gives you a
mixture of The Lord of the Rings, The Neverending Story, and
the Chronicles of Narnia. The movie is completely different
and not a disappointment it turns out to be a lot of fun.
You have your hero, villains, bears, cowboys, adventures,
and a whole lot more. The golden Compass is the best epic
quest movie since The Lord of the Rings. It is a must see!
In Jordan, an
11-year old orphan girl name Lyra Belacaqua (Dakota
BlueRichards) whose uncle, Lord Asriel (Daniel Craig) who
travels north to investigate on what is called Dust. While
Lord Asriel leaves, Lyra takes on an adventure with her
demon Pantalaimon (Pan) to find the missing children, and
more important her best friend, kidnapped by members called
the Gobblers, who are in league with the dictatorial cabal
known as Magisterium. Before she goes on her quest to find
the children, she meets the silky villainess Marisa Coulter
who is trying to get the Golden Compass from Lyra so the
children can be normal with out there demons. Little do Lyra
and Pan know that Mrs.Coulter and other villains are out
there trying to stop her from discovering the truth.
The movie is well
scripted. I like the way they took this epic and made it
with a different style of adventure. The cast for the movie
did an excellent job playing their characters. Nicole Kidman
made a terrific performance playing Mrs. Coulter. She
understood the power; the charisma and ultimately the
vulnerability of the character. Dakota Blue Richards showed
a great performance acting as Lyra and Daniel Craig does a
great performance as Lord Asriel, although he does not have
a lot of screen play. Serafina Pekkala (Eva Green),
Clan-queen of the witches of Lake Enara, Lee Scoresby,
played by Sam Elliott, is the perfect choice for that role
and an estrange but loyal armored ice bear named Iorek
Byrnison all did wonderful too. Also the fact that each
deamon matches the personality of the character shows that a
lot of thinking was done. The special effects were
mind-blowing and well detailed, from the design of the
vehicles to the animal characters, specially with the beast
characters like the bears, and demons that look as real as
they can get. for many people who watched the movie who
thought it wasn't going to be worth wild let me tell them
they were wrong. It was amazing seeing the witches
performing attacks in the air, and the polar bears fighting.
With a story that will capture the public attention , the
audience will not feel the two hours in length for this
movie.
The director and producers did an
outstanding job producing this movie. The script was well
written and played, the actors chosen for the character were
fascinating, and the movie was breathtaking. The person that
I am, I did not have the privilege to read the books, I do
not know if little is known about the main character,
nonetheless, I figured the second movie will give more
details on her past. . The Golden Compass really changed my
perspective in this trilogy, and I wish I could have read
the book. although the end disappoints a little, it will let
you asking for more. The Golden Compass is a magical,
enjoyable and an intriguing ride to watch with the whole
family.
