My wife got me to read the book, and I enjoyed it so much I went out and bought Billie Lett's  2nd book (not a sequel:  "The Honk and Holler Opening Soon"). Enjoyed it just as much!  Couldn't wait to see the movie, took my wife. It was faithful to the book, though Novalee and her boy friend are the only ones I came close to picturing!  This isn't just a woman's movie, but it may wind up selling that way.

I thought it was really good. it really had a universal theme to it that really hit hom. it spoke about teens who get pregnant and that is really an issue today

I think the movie was very funny. Although, it did not send a good message for young children in regards to the number of children being produced throughout the movie. It was still a very good movie.

A few excellent performances by Channing, Portman and others save this film from its own plot, which consists of one improbable incident after another.  Why we have to see what happens to Novalee's scumbag boyfriend as we return to him time and time again is beyond me.  The whole tornado and number 5 thing, I'm afraid, is a little much. Yet, the movie's basic premise -- that someone can be so unloved and down on luck as to have to live in a Wal-Mart -- is believable and sobering.  In this respect, the movie is just realistic enough to wrench at your heart. I was puzzled by how warm and fuzzy I felt after seeing this movie, even though some of what happens in it was ridiculous.  It reminded me a lot of The Wizard of Oz -- Portman with her basket (and her braids in one scene) really evokes Judy Garland.  Ashley Judd was the Good Witch; Sister Husband Auntie Em; the old alcoholic lawyer was the Lion; the photographer the Tin Man.  And didn't Dorothy say to the Scarecrow (Forney) "You're the best friend I've ever had?"  The tornado sealed the parallel for me:  I'm convinced the writers drew a lot from The Wizard of Oz in making this movie.  Hence, the warm fuzzy feeling. Where the Heart Is is worth a look, just for that.

Guys perspective:  Where the Heart Is, is a great story with WONDERFUL acting.  Although a "people" movie, the story moved at a good pace with a perfect mix of humor, excitement and emotion (that's not a bad thing!). The characters are perfectly cast, and the movie leaves you wanting to know what their future holds.  Take your wife or girlfriend, or go alone.  And worst case guys, if you don't like the movie, Natalie Portman (Novalee) is real easy on the eyes.  See it!

This movie was very good.  Excellent characters, sweet, sensitive, with a good script.  You really got know the chararcters and it was enjoyable to follow their lives.  It was one of those movies where you don't want it to end. A MUST SEE!

Where the Heart is was a wonderful movie.  I was very impressed by the fact that the writers of the movie were able to capture what happened in the book so accurately.  At my personal count, there were less than a dozen differences between the book and the movie.  The differences were not even major events that would change the movie.  Natalie Portman and Ashley Judd did wonderful jobs of portraying the main characters.

I love this movie so much, it really shows how you can live your life to the fullest when you are delt a bad hand at life. Novalee will inspire you to live to the fullest.

I really liked this movie. It is deifnitely a "chick flick" but every chick in America should see it.  I think the one thing that isn't getting enough attention is the love story, which I thought was the best part.

After reading the book, I still felt that the movie was great. Although I couldn't figure out why they would change small things like the unlucky number from 7 to 5.  I have to say that if someone didn't rate this move at 100, they have no emotion.  A film and book that can make a person feel every emotion known and look into their own hearts deserves 200.

Two ways to judge this movie: As a reader of the book, it is repectful of the author's vision; as movie art, it doesn't push the state of the art.  But then, I'm tired of everything trying so hard to push the line.  I go to be entertained. Therefore, my criteion is: did it entertain me, well?  It did.

THis is one of the best movies i've ever seen!!! it has love, hardship and happiness all in one. Natalie portman has grown since her teenage scene in Anywhere but here to a young woman with the courage to bear a child an take care of it. This should be the top movie of the year!!!

I personally loved this movie. It's one of those movies that makes you cry and laugh at the same time, and one of those movies where you walk out of the theater feeling a lot better about your life in general. It's a tearjerker, but it still has a happy ending so that you don't leave depressed. I HIGHLY recommend this movie to everyone(although it is definately a "chick flick").

I went to the theater to see "Here on Earth" with my friend Marissa when it came out and we saw the trailer for "Where the heart is.  We both looked at each other and said,"We are so there!!!"  We had rented "Double Jepordy" a few weeks earlier and fallen in love with Ashley Judd so we knew we had to see this movie.  We also absolutley love Stockard Channing and Joan Cusack and of course the fabulous miss Sally Field.  After we saw the movie we loved them even more and fell in love with the charmming Natalie Portman.  I love her so much. This movie touched me deep in my heart and it is now my new favorite.  I can not express how good this movie is and I live in anticipation of when I will be able to see it again.    Adrienne Carlson 17yrs.                  Portland, Or.

I thought this movie was touching, funny, dramatic, and very emotional. It's a beautiful coming of age story in desquise. I feel that this is by far one of Natalie Portman's best performances. She brought the character of Novalee to life. Ashley Judd was also wonderful. Her character did not have much depth but the scene on the porch stole my heart. These two women are the ones to watch. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of them.

The movie, "Where the Heart Is," featured some well known actress, which made the movie a little more interesting.  Unlike the book, though, many parts were left out or changed.  I did not like the fact that Sam Walton and Benny Goodluck were not even mentioned in the movie...Those were my favorite parts in the book!

Not quite as good as Steel Magnolias but it comes in at a close second.  Ashley Judd was outstanding and Stockard Channing was as amazing as ever.

The plot dosn't go anywhere, and Natalie Portman, as much as I hate to say it, is not convincing

I thought Where the heart is was AN EXCELLENT portrayal of what most of us do go through and that is hard and tough times, and she did not let that take her down, but put her on a perfect path to greatness, well anyway I love Natalie Portman and cannot wait until the day she wins an oscar

This was a pretty good movie but it is definitely not the most memorable movie in the world. It is a bit slow and it seems to have some holes in it. I really enjoyed most of the characters. Some parts of the movie left me bothered for instance, why in the world did "Sister" decide in a middle of a tornado to deliver some soup to a sick friend? I also couldn't understand how Forny knew that Novelee was having her baby in Walmart. Yes, he saw her enter the store, but how in the world was he able to hear her cries through plate glass windows (for that matter jump through one) and through such a huge store which most of her screams would be absorbed? Also, why in the library with Forney for the first time, was Novelee not able to read well and not able to understand certain "big" words but when she was in the hospital she was able to understand the word "abonmination" and she could read well? There were several other incidences as well that I just couldn't quite grasp as believable. I feel the movie producers tried to fit too much into a two hour movie. If I overlook these little details, the story was overall pretty good and the characters were rich in substance. I just would like for it to be more believable.

The book was the best book I've ever read, and I must say, it was better than the movie, but the movie was great. The only thing wrong with it was that Benny Goodluck, sam Walton and other little things were'nt mentioned in the movie, and why did they change the 7 to a 5? The movie is a must see for the family!

This movie was heart-wrenching and touching in the highest degree. A chick-flick to the toes, it also has such great humor that even the boyfriends that will eventually be dragged to this film will be able to appreciate it.  The only thing that keeps it from being a clean sweep is that every five minutes something awful happens and you just want to cry with the heroines of this great movie.

I thought the movie was very compelling. There was a good story behind it. It wasn't all drama - it had comedy and romance to go along with it. The acting was great too.

Embracing the issue of early motherhood, this film light-heartedly focuses on the misfortunes of a hapless teen who learns to take life "one chapter at a time." With no more than $5.55 and a kodak camera, Novalee takes her second chance at life, after being abandoned in a Wal-mart parking lot, and in her journey, learns to live and have hopes to better herself and others as well. It is a touching film that catches the heart of every "chic-flic" lover.

You can understand the movie better if you read the book.  It would of been better if you would not of left out some of the parts.  Other then that the movie was really good

I just went to see the show and I thought that it was absolutely amazing!! Not only did the actors and actresses involved fit the part of their role it had emotions that got you right "where there heart is" (no pun intended.) There are not alot of movies that i go to the theatre to watch anymore and very few that I would see again or even go out and but, but I think that I will make an exception for this one. I loved the obsticles that each perosn had to overcome and the positive attitude that was portrayed throughout the whole movie. It shows and person that there is something worth fighting for something far more better then any of the bad "things" that may happen to you. I thought that it was an excellent movie and I would recommend it to anyone!!!! :)
