REVIEW: WHITEOUT
09/10/09
SYNOPSIS:
For U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko, things are
about to get even more dangerous. The only law enforcement
in this unforgiving territory, she has just been sent to
investigate a body on the ice. Antarctica's first homicide.
A shocking discovery in itself, it will plunge her into an
even more bizarre mystery and the revelation of secrets
long-buried under the endless ice...secrets that someone
believes are still worth killing for.
As Stetko races to find the killer before he finds her,
winter is already closing in. In the deadly Antarctic
whiteout, she won't see him till he's a breath away.
REVIEW: I went into
Whiteout without really knowing what it was about. After
all, the trailers for this movie didn't really quite say
much about the plot. And since I don't like spoiling movies
for others, you'll finish this review without knowing what
it is about either. A sinister "Ha Ha Ha!" to you. But at
least you'll know whether it may be a movie for you or not.
For one, Kate Beckinsale is one of my favorites so that is
definitely a plus for this film. I can't say she did a bad
job, though I do think she could have done better. The
dialogue at times was a bit too generic. You can be the
judge of that and let me know what you think. As for the
movie, it started out capturing my attention with its
initial scene, enough to intrigue me for the first half hour
or so. I recall saying to myself..."Hey, this is better than
what I thought it would be". This feeling then began to
dwindle down as time ticked away and the plot continued to
unfold. It turned into what I would consider a perfect movie
to watch on DVD when you have nothing else to do. Is it
enjoyable? Somewhat. Would I see it again? Maybe in 10 years
when I forget that I have already seen it. Well, that may be
a bit exaggerated on my part as it was a fairly
decent/average movie. It's just that I typically don't see
many movies again unless I really really enjoyed it. And
this is not one of them. I was entertained for a while but
it felt like an old school plot with the addition of
extremely hazardous conditions. Go watch Cliffhanger!
So if you have already seen the other movies out there, and
need a movie to take a date to, then this movie may be okay
for you. But don't expect it to be anything more than okay.
Bowling or ice skating may be a better choice if you are
trying to "break the ice". Just so you know...it does have a
little suspense, several action sequences, a lot of snow,
and it does have a slight "who done it" or "what is it"
aspect. Did I mention it has Kate Beckinsale? For the guys
who like her, you'll like the beginning of the movie. If you
see it, let me know what you think.
