Something Pointless, from Hiraeth Productions Cyf and Screen Wizards Pictures, will begin its Academy Award‑qualifying theatrical run at San Francisco’s Roxie Theater from 28 August to 3 September, screening as part of the venue’s First Looks Oscar‑Qualifying programme. This engagement positions the film for consideration in the Best Live Action Short Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.
The short film has gained significant momentum on the festival circuit, earning 68 official selections, 25 wins, and 49 nominations worldwide. Recent awards include Best Short Film at Baarìa Film Festival, Best International Short Film at the Zepstone Film Awards, and Best Actor for Owen Teale at the Beyond Hollywood International Film Festival.
Written by Neil Graham and David Cormican, and directed by Asa Bailey, Something Pointless follows the bond between a lonely, bullied boy and an elderly man whose quiet daily ritual becomes an unexpected act of defiance. The film stars Leo Harris, Owen Teale, Sophie Thompson, and Sule Rimi.
