BUFF Studios has unveiled the first trailer and poster for SHADOWS OF BEIRUT, the new drama from director Tina Gharavi, arriving in UK theaters on 25 September 2026. Inspired by writer and lead Tala Calil’s own experiences, the film explores themes of obsessive‑compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, reconciliation and the powerful pull of home.
Developed through a close collaboration between Calil and Gharavi (Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day), the film presents an intimate portrait of a woman confronting the past she has spent decades avoiding.
Synopsis
After 25 years away, a young woman returns to Beirut to visit her dying father — a man she has not seen since childhood. Forced to face painful memories and unresolved wounds, she navigates a fragile space between forgiveness and estrangement.
As she reconnects with the city she once called home, Beirut becomes both a comfort and a challenge. Encounters with old acquaintances and new connections gradually draw her back into a world she believed she had left behind. Her journey becomes as much an internal reckoning as a physical return, revealing a deeper understanding of her family, her history and herself.
Set against the vibrant resilience of Beirut, SHADOWS OF BEIRUT is a moving drama about identity, memory and the enduring pull of home.
