Miami International Film Festival (MiamiFF), a program of Miami Dade College’s MDCulture, in cooperation with New York City’s Film Society of Lincoln Center, revealed today that Chilean director Cristián Jiménez’s Voice Over (La voz en off) will enjoy a mutual US Premiere at both MiamiFF 2015 and Film Comment Selects 2015. Therefore, Voice Over’s US Premiere will be presented in both Miami and New York City only days apart. Both US Premiere screenings will be mutually co-presented by Film Comment Selects 2015 and Miami International Film Festival.
Voice Over is the story of the unexpected family issues revealed when a 35-year marriage disintegrates. Both comedic and dramatic, director Cristián Jiménez’s third feature film envisions and chronicles the modern day Chilean family in the face of nascent new social freedoms. His first film Optical Illusions (2009) screened at numerous international film festivals, including MiamiFF27 in 2010; his second film Bonsái world premiered at Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section in 2011, and later won MiamiFF29’s Knight Ibero-American Grand Jury Competition and the Jordan Alexander Ressler Screenwriting Award in 2012. Voice Over will be screened in MiamiFF32 as part of the Knight Grand Jury Competition. The US distributor of Vocie Over is TCL – Todo Cine Latino, the new Latin label of Outsider Pictures.
In a joint statement, MiamiFF Executive Director Jaie Laplante and Film Comment Editor Gavin Smith said, “Superb movies are incredibly difficult to make. As festival programmers we have no desire to make them even more difficult to show. So with our mutual admiration of Voice Over and close proximity of our proposed screenings by only a few days, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and MiamiFF decided quite simply to put artist and audience first.”
