Amazon MGM Studios has released the official trailer for VERITY, the upcoming psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover’s New York Times best‑selling novel. The film stars Academy Award® winner Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett, and will open only in theaters October 2, 2026.
Directed by Michael Showalter and written by Nick Antosca, Verity brings Hoover’s seductive, twist‑filled story to the big screen with a tense, atmospheric adaptation that explores obsession, manipulation, and the blurred line between truth and fiction.
Verity follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), who accepts a job ghostwriting for Verity at the remote Crawford estate. While sorting through Verity’s unfinished manuscripts, Lowen discovers what appear to be chilling autobiographical notes — disturbing confessions that raise questions about Verity’s husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), their marriage, and the secrets buried within the house.
As Lowen becomes entangled in the Crawford family’s past, she finds herself unable to distinguish reality from manipulation, attraction from danger, and opportunity from obsession. The deeper she reads, the more she realizes that some stories are written to deceive.
