Screen Media Ventures, LLC, a leading global independent motion picture distribution company, today announced that the company has reached an agreement with iconic independent film producer and distributor Troma Entertainment for licensing rights to 40 films. Screen Media Ventures plans to add classics from Troma Entertainment to its free streaming film library on its ad-supported platforms, including PopcornflixTM, horror channel FrightPIXTM and Popcornflix ComedyTM.

Specializing in the production of kitschy shockers that feature a blend of gore, slapstick and irreverent social commentary, Troma Entertainment has been a legend in the film business for 40 years. Notable films that are now available through Screen Media Ventures’ free streaming platforms include campy classics like the Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke ‘Em High series, Blood Sucking Freaks and Tromeo and Juliet.

The transaction is significant because, in a rapidly evolving media environment where consumers are increasingly demanding new options, the deal between Screen Media Ventures and Troma Entertainment provides fresh alternatives. Consumers can view the licensed Troma Entertainment films on Screen Media Ventures’ free streaming platforms via the web, Roku®, Xbox, iOS or Android apps at no charge, viewing commercials in exchange for access to thousands of titles, including 40 Troma films.

“Troma Entertainment films have reached cult classic status worldwide,” said David Fannon, Executive Vice President at Screen Media Ventures. “Consumers are looking for alternatives to content providers who are nickel-and-diming them at every turn, and they’re seeking affordable entertainment options. Our agreement with Troma underscores Popcornflix’s commitment to providing consumers with an array of entertainment options for free!”

The Popcornflix website and Android and iOS apps were developed by Curious Brain. The Roku app was developed by Float Left Interactive. Popcornflix and Screen Media Ventures’ other entertainment channels are ad-supported platforms that are 100% free to viewers with no subscription needed. Popcornflix, FrightPIX and Popcornflix Comedy are owned and managed by Screen Media Ventures, LLC, a leading worldwide independent motion picture distribution company.
