Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American rights to Nathan Silver’s award-winning Uncertain Terms, and will release the film theatrically and on digital platforms throughout the US and Canada in the Spring.
Uncertain Terms played as part of IFP & Filmmaker Magazine’s ‘Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You’ Series at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in November. A favorite among critics around the world, Uncertain Terms made IndieWire’s Best Undistributed Films of 2014 list, as well as Best of the Year lists at The New Yorker, Twitch Film and Senses of Cinema.
The New York Times raved Uncertain Terms is an “intimate, ambling drama” that “packs a mini-series’ worth of regrets, resentment and ignored cellphone calls into 71 minutes.”
Premiering at the 2014 LA Film Festival, the film has gone onto a robust festival run around the world including Edinburgh, Munich, Deauville, Viennale, Stockholm, Sao Paulo, Mill Valley and Denver, with additional festivals to be announced.
Uncertain Terms follows a 30-year-old man who needs an escape from his troubled marriage in Brooklyn. He leaves for the countryside to stay with his Aunt Carla at her bucolic home for pregnant teenagers. Tensions run high when Robbie develops a friendship with Nina, who is mature beyond her age and dealing with her own relationship troubles. Robbie soon finds himself caught in a love triangle between Nina and her delinquent boyfriend.
Uncertain Terms won the Ultra Indie Award at Woodstock. At the Indie Memphis Film Festival, where the film won Best Film and Best Screenplay, juror Ted Hope suggested that Nathan Silver would go on to have the kind of successful career of Nicole Holofcener, Ang Lee and Hal Hartley.
“Similar to Xavier Dolan and Kyle Patrick Alvarez, whose films we’ve distributed, we feel Nathan Silver is one of the most dynamic young filmmakers today. Uncertain Terms is an important film for indie film culture and Breaking Glass Pictures is proud to bring this art-house piece to mainstream audiences,” says Mike Repsch, Breaking Glass VP of Sales.
