STILL LIFE
Life for the unassuming John May (Eddie Marsan) has always revolved around his work for the local council in South London, finding the next of kin of those who have died alone. Profoundly dedicated to his work, he believes that everyone deserves a dignified exit, and writes eulogies and organizes funerals for those who wouldn’t have them otherwise. But when a new case – an elderly alcoholic in a flat directly opposite his own – hits him harder than usual, he journeys outside London to track down the man’s long-abandoned daughter (Joanne Froggatt). APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR
For Shirin (Desiree Akhavan), being part of a perfect Persian family isn’t easy. Acceptance eludes her from all sides: her family doesn’t know she’s bisexual, and her ex-girlfriend, Maxine (Rebecca Henderson), can’t understand why she doesn’t tell them. Even the six-year-old boys in her moviemaking class are too ADD to focus on her for more than a second. Following a family announcement of her brother’s betrothal to a parentally approved Iranian prize catch, Shirin embarks on a private rebellion involving a series of pansexual escapades, while trying to decipher what went wrong with Maxine.
LOITERING WITH INTENT
Through a chance encounter, out-of-work-actors Raphael (Ivan Martin) and Dominic (Michael Godere) hustle a prominent New York producer into believing they’ve written a hot movie script. She takes the bait and they have 10 days to deliver the goods. So the duo escape the throes of New York City and head upstate for the pastoral beauty of an eccentric country manor, where they plan to hunker down and write the screenplay that is sure to solve all of their problems. While basking in monastic solace, their writer’s retreat is interrupted by a young beautiful gardener; Dominic’s sister Gigi (Marisa Tomei); and Wayne and Devon (Sam Rockwell and Brian Geraghty), Gigi’s troubled boyfriend and his pleasure-seeking younger brother. This constellation of characters — with lunatic yearnings for love, sex, and romance — offer anything but a good setting for the two fledgling screenwriters. What ensues is a bacchanalian romp that will pique anxieties and challenge Raphael and Dominic’s long-standing friendship. LOITERING WITH INTENT was directed by Adam Rapp, with a screenplay by Martin and Godere.
