Illumination is expanding its global animated empire once again with Minions & Monsters, a bold and joyfully chaotic new entry in the biggest animated franchise in history. Fresh off the blockbuster success of Despicable Me 4, this all‑new adventure introduces a riotous chapter that dives deeper into Minion mythology than ever before — and reveals the totally true story of how the Minions became Hollywood stars, lost everything, accidentally unleashed monsters, and then had to save the world from their own mayhem.
Directed by Academy Award–nominee Pierre Coffin — the creative force behind the first three Despicable Me films and the original Minions — the film marks a triumphant return for the filmmaker who also voices the beloved yellow icons. The screenplay comes from Brian Lynch (Minions, The Secret Life of Pets) and Coffin, with production led by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan (The Super Mario Bros. Movie). Lynch also serves as executive producer.
More than a decade after their debut, the Minions remain some of the most recognizable animated characters on the planet. Their films have generated more than $5.6 billion at the global box office, and Minions & Monsters looks ready to push their legacy into an even more outrageous direction — blending comedy, creature chaos, and the heart that has defined Illumination’s storytelling from the start.
With new characters, new lore, and the return of the creative team that built the franchise, Minions & Monsters promises a wildly entertaining ride for fans of all ages.
