Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Atomic Monster, and Independent Film Company have unveiled River, a new slasher thriller from writer-director Joshua Giuliano, arriving in theaters on January 15, 2027.
Described as a vivid and visceral entry in the slasher genre, River follows estranged siblings who reunite in their rural hometown following the death of their father. Their attempt to honor his memory by scattering his ashes at his favorite spot along a remote river quickly turns into a terrifying fight for survival when they become targets of a relentless masked killer.
The film stars Jane Levy (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead), Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day franchise, Pulse), and Dane DiLiegro (Prey, Only Murders in the Building).
River marks the feature directorial debut of Joshua Giuliano and was acquired by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster following a well-received screening during the Midnight Madness program at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The project is produced by Steven Schneider (Insidious franchise, Split) through Spooky Pictures, alongside Nick Antosca (Cape Fear, Verity) and Alex Hedlund via Eat The Cat. Executive producers include Jeffrey Tinnell, Robert Tinnell, Matt Brodlie, Jonathan Kier, Ben Ross, and Jason Blum.
