GENERATION IRON, which follows the world’s leading bodybuilders as they train and compete for the coveted Mr. Olympia title, will be released in theaters nationwide by Vladar Company and America Media Inc on September 20, 2013. The film gives front row access to the lives of the top 7 bodybuilders in the sport, including Phil Heath, Kai Greene, Branch Warren and Dennis Wolf. Mickey Rourke narrates the film, with appearances by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno and Jay Cutler. The film will open in New York, Los Angeles and additional markets nationwide.
Directed and Written by Vlad Yudin, GENERATION IRON is produced by Yudin and Edwin Mejia. Jerome Gary, producer of the cult classic PUMPING IRON, which helped make Arnold Schwarzenegger a household name, was also tapped to executive produce. GENERATION IRON provides insight into the professional sport of bodybuilding today and follows these men as they compete on the International stage. Yudin followed seven current athletes from around the world, including New York, Los Angeles, Japan, and Germany.
“We are thrilled to be releasing the first major film focused on bodybuilding since PUMPING IRON in 1977,” said director Vlad Yudin. “Working with this incredible team, including PUMPING IRON producer Jerome Gary, to tell the story of these seven athletes from all over the world has been incredible. The bodybuilding sport is very misunderstood and has so many stereotypes associated with it. I really wanted to focus on the lives of these athletes and explore what motivates and inspires them both in this unique world and in their everyday lives.”
