GKIDS, a distributor of award-winning animation for both adult and family audiences, announced its acquisition of US rights to APRIL AND THE EXTRAORDINARY WORLD, featuring Marion Cotillard as the voice of April. The French animated film from the producers of Persepolis and bestselling graphic novelist Jacques Tardi screens in competition starting June 15 at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

The deal was negotiated by Aska Yamaguchi for Studiocanal and Eric Beckman for GKIDS. GKIDS plans an early 2016 release in both French and English language versions.

From the producers of Academy Award-nominated Persepolis and the creative mind of renowned French graphic artist Jacques Tardi comes APRIL AND THE EXTRAORDINARY WORLD, an alternate history, steampunk adventure about a girl’s journey to fulfill her destiny, in a world where all scientists have been taken prisoner and technological progress has come to a standstill. Featuring the voice of Marion Cotillard (upcoming Macbeth, The Little Prince, Two Days One Night) as the heroine, April, the film is set in an alternate Paris with two Eiffel Towers, and networks of cable cars zigzagging above the soot-covered streets.
