I have been waiting for this film anxiously since the film was announced. After a ten year run “The X Files” is one of the best television shows that I have seen, with the addition of “Lost” of course. The first thing that I wanted to know was the release day. To my surprise it was Summer 2008. I was skeptical about the film being released in the Summer. As many people know the Summer is for films with tremendous production budgets, big explosions, and unbelievable special effects these characteristics are just not part of this film.
With that in mind, I embarked on my own mysterious search for the truth. As a fan of the show, I was pleased with this movie since Chris Carter and his team brought back the mystery, the writing and messages of believing, that only “The X Files” brought for many years to me and many people around the world. It has been six years since the last episode and it was rewarding to see Fox Mulder and Dana Scully back together in a mysterious investigation combining the paranormal with the real world.
This film plays very similar to an extended “The X Files” regular episode, and it still has plenty of intelligent writing, strong performance, mystery and tension that makes this show a classic. No big explosions not unbelievable special effects, just pure mystery and tension. Chris Carter kept the essence of what the show is about. It brings enough material to appreciate once more the chemistry between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson performing these characters. Mulder still thinks about his sister and Scully stills argues with Mulder about faith and believe in the paranormal world.
Many people will criticize this film, because it doesn’t present anything new. It is the same concept, but for me “The X Files: I Want to Believe” was not about bringing anything new to the table. It was more about keeping the concept and not disappointing the millions of fans around the world.
Fox Home Entertainment HD presentation of the film is just exceptional. A full 1080P with 2.40:1 aspect ration preserving the integrity of its theatrical presentation. Fans of the show will be delighted by look of the film. The series never look look better in a TV ser. The True HD 5.1 Dolby Digital is a good complement for that exceptional picture. specially towards the end of movie.
This Blu-ray disc is packed with over three hours of bonus features content including an unrated “Extended Cut”, which is about 10 minutes longer than the theatrical release. Also includes probably the best special feature of the BD, the length documentary “Trust No One” that reveals exciting secrets about “The X-Files” universe. Fans will be assure to enjoy this featurette, as they are able to find out many details about the series. Another interesting features was the audio commentary by Christ Carter and Frank Spotnitz, which can be play Picture in Pictures. which is exceptional. Fans and non fans the a full behind the scenes access to the making of the film. I also really enjoy the Interactive Timeline featurette. Fans will feel transported in time to one of the best shows in television.
Because this Blu-ray is Fox’s Home Entertainment first ever BD-Live Release with advanced interactive experience, It is just one of the best in market. Fox took full advantage of the BD-Live technology and created the best BD-LIVE release in the market. Functionality with exclusive features, games, additional content and connectivity to other BD-Live users and X-Files fans nationwide. “The X-Files Dossier” allows BD-Live connected users to create their own Special Agent avatar that can browse through Agent Dakota Whitney’s case files on clairvoyance and post their own notes and theories to her files online and download other profiles directly to their BD player memory files; plus fans can become an agent-in-training by helping Agent Drummy solve several forensic challenges (with new cases posted weekly to the studio supported BD-Live web portal for the first several weeks of release).
As a fan of the series I could not be happier that Fox picked The X Files to be the first ever BD-Live, I want to believe that there are more X files coming.
