Apple TV+ has unveiled the official trailer for the fifth season of its acclaimed comedy series Trying, starring and executive produced by BAFTA Award nominee Esther Smith and Actor Award nominee Rafe Spall. The eight‑episode season will premiere globally on Wednesday, July 8, with new episodes released weekly through August 26.
Season Five finds Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall) navigating the emotional fallout of Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler’s (Cooper Turner) biological mother, Kat (Charlotte Riley), unexpectedly reentering their lives. Her arrival brings a whirlwind of complications that threatens the family’s hard‑won stability, pushing Nikki and Jason into new territory as parents and partners.
The ensemble cast includes BAFTA Award winner Darren Boyd (Down Cemetery Road), BAFTA Award nominee Siân Brooke (Blue Lights), Actor Award nominee Celia Imrie (The Thursday Murder Club), BAFTA Award nominee Phil Davis (Harry Potter and the Half‑Blood Prince), BAFTA Award winner Gbemisola Ikumelo (Black Ops), and Actor Award nominee Colin Morgan (Belfast).
Since its debut, Trying has earned widespread praise as a “feel‑good,” “poignant,” and “addictive” comedy, celebrated for its warmth, standout performances, and heartfelt storytelling. The series holds a 96% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers calling it one of Apple TV+’s “sweetest treats.”
Created, written, and executive produced by Andy Wolton, the series is produced by BBC Studios and executive produced by BAFTA Award nominees Josh Cole and Sam Pinnell, alongside International Emmy Award winner Chris Sussman, Smith, and Spall.
Season Five’s soundtrack is led by Ivor Novello Award‑winning artist and producer Orla Gartland, who contributes original songs debuting with each episode. Her upcoming single, “At The End Of The Day,” is featured in the new trailer. Gartland follows Guy Garvey, Maisie Peters, Bear’s Den, and BEKA, who crafted the soundtracks for previous seasons.
