The festival‑favorite comedy The Floaters arrives in theaters beginning Friday, July 10, opening at Quad Cinema in New York with cast and crew Q&As throughout opening weekend. The film will expand to Los Angeles, Chicago, and additional cities starting July 17.
From filmmaker Rachel Israel (Keep the Change, Influenced), The Floaters is a heartfelt, offbeat crowd‑pleaser that celebrates the unique culture of Jewish summer camp while exploring the universal search for belonging, identity, and connection.
The film stars Jackie Tohn (Nobody Wants This) alongside a standout ensemble including Sarah Podemski, Aya Cash, Judah Lewis, Nina Bloomgarden, Jake Ryan, Seth Green, Jonathan Silverman, Steve Guttenberg, and Jacob Moskovitz.
Freshly kicked out of her rock band, Nomi (Jackie Tohn) reluctantly accepts a last‑chance job from her childhood best friend Mara (Sarah Podemski) at the Jewish summer camp they once attended. While Mara struggles to keep the camp afloat—literally, thanks to a failing septic system—she assigns Nomi to supervise a group of outsider teens known as the Floaters.
When a rival camp led by Nomi and Mara’s longtime nemesis Daniel (Seth Green) issues a high‑stakes challenge with prize money on the line, Nomi pushes boundaries and jeopardizes her friendship with Mara. To save the camp, Nomi and the Floaters must overcome their differences, unite as a team, and outshine their rivals.
Told through multigenerational perspectives, The Floaters is a warm, funny, and deeply human comedy that captures the vibrant diversity of Jewish summer camp life while exploring the tension between leaving one’s mark and building meaningful community.
