Apple Original Films has released the official trailer and artwork for Tenzing, the sweeping new drama chronicling the extraordinary true story behind the first successful summit of Mount Everest. The film will premiere on Apple TV on October 16, 2026.
Based on true events, Tenzing tells the remarkable, little‑known story of Tenzing Norgay (Genden Phuntsok), the gifted Himalayan climber whose partnership with New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary (Tom Hiddleston) led to one of the greatest achievements in human history: the first successful ascent of Mount Everest.
Encouraged by his wife Dawa (Thinley Lhamo), Tenzing finds an unexpected ally in expedition secretary Jill Henderson (Caitríona Balfe). Together, they challenge the assumptions of Colonel John Hunt (Willem Dafoe), arguing that Tenzing deserves a place on the British climbing team—not merely to serve it.
Where Western climbers see “Everest” as a peak to be conquered, Tenzing reveres Chomolungma, the sacred mother goddess. The film explores how cultural tensions, class divides, and competing ambitions shape the expedition as profoundly as the mountain’s own dangers. Yet high above the world, rank and empire fall away, leaving two outsiders bound by mutual respect and trust. For Tenzing, the summit becomes both the fulfillment of a lifelong dream and a deeply spiritual calling.
Directed by award‑winning filmmaker Jennifer Peedom, Tenzing is a story of greatness that refuses to be diminished—and of the love and belief that make it possible.
